I started my pipe adventure at a yard sale where a family was selling off a dead relatives things. He was a hoarder and had TUNS of things but best of all he had over 200 pipes in very good shape. Sadly I at the time didn't understand pipes and so at $5 - $20 I only got 4 or 5, now looking back I should had got them all... or maybe not? That's my question.
I have over 30 pipes now but most of them are used and I don't know the worth of them. Should I Post pics and info about them in the Pipe Talk Forums? or is there a site I can use? Some other option?

There isn't a definitive "Blue Book" for pipes. Your best bet is reading the nomenclature on the pipes (the imprints on the sides of the pipe and/or logos on the stem) and checking out Pipepedia (a wiki) for references. Reselling estate pipes (or even new pipes) is market dependent. Look up your findings on eBay for an idea as to what they are going for (or what folks are asking for them).
Also, you can post around here and see what someone will offer for them if you want.

Smokingstatue:
If your pipe literally has no nomenclature -- no brand name whatsoever, no logo on the stem, no stamping of any kind on the briar -- then I would say it's virtually worthless on the resale market. If you like the shape of it, keep it and smoke it yourself. But if you put such pipes on eBay, they're not likely to sell for more than a couple of dollars, if at all.
Also, be aware that you won't be allowed to offer pipes for sale here on the Forum until you've reached a minimum of 100 posts.

My bad, Bob, forgot about that selling/posts necessary thing. Now we wait for Kevin to show up and confirm ...
Yeah, if it has zero nomenclature you won't get much. Stuff like that I would package into a lot on eBay: no name pipes and/or lower end ones.

No need for Kevin to confirm. It's already part of the Buy/Sell/Trade Forum Guidelines:
- A member must have a minimum of 100 valid posts to create an ad (i.e comments with some substance)

I know we don't NEED Kevin to confirm, but this would be one of those times where he would appear and state the rules like he has a tendency to do.
His MOD senses are tingling I'm sure.

I'm not looking to sell any of them any time soon, I'm sure to turn into a hoarder myself. Thanks for all the advice on the matter!

In that case man, just copy them into your profiles Album, copy the picture's location, use the IMG button to paste the link.
We like pictures around these parts.

Welcome to the forum. If any of your pipes have any kind of stampings on the shank or stem, two good places to learn about them are:
http://pipedia.org/
http://www.pipephil.eu/
As for monetary value, that all depends on the make, shape, and condition.

Wow, great photo-skilz you got there. I love the background of jars of tobacco. Some of these have nomenclature. You could use the links that Sablebrush posted to find out a little more background on the ones with.
I have that exact Dr Grabow Starfire. I traced it back to the early 50's, and I had picked mine up at a junk store also. It is one of my favorite smokers for beating about the yard. I love the shape and texture.
And, that lil' bulldog in the rack is cute pup. It definitely looks like it was well loved. Nice collection. I hope you're cleaning these up before smoking them. Oxidized vulcanite and moldy briar can really detract from the tobacco flavors.
Thanks for posting the pictures and welcome to the forums.

From Condorlover;
Very interesting collection and it is very unusual to see a German pipe. They were designed that way to smoke broken clay pipes.
Learn something new every day here I do.

It is a great collection. Very nice. I like your pipe cabinet and jars too.

But my pipes are always clean and ready to smoke.

cosmicfolklore I was just smoking the Starfire today! The only thing I don't like is it is super thin. I need to get a good cake going in it.
Condorlover thanks for the info, I had no idea!
Can't wait to get all the moldy ones cleaned up to really see whats hiding behind the dirt. Thanks for all the input about the pipes!
