I've seen the whole front yard of a house in Scarsdale, NY, infested with a solid forest of invasive bamboo. You could not even attempt to walk from sidewalk to front door through this bamboo, it's that dense!
Hobby shops and artificial flower departments/sections have bamboo stalks for sale. Cheapo backyard Tiki torches come with bamboo poles, too.

Thanks y'all. No, I did not want to grow that stuff, just get a section on bamboo to make a pipe shank. I have a sweet smoking no name pipe with a bastardized stem that doesn't fit. The pipe isn't worth a $30 $50 dollar stem and yet smokes too good to trash. Will make a better shop pipe maybe.
