Our resident dragon requested something swirly for the cob that he has on the way. Fire Swirl seemed the logical choice.

If at first you don't succeed you are running about average.

Nice, I've been thinking about getting a new stem for cobs. I've just been buying new pipes once the steam gets too chewed up, so I have about 7 pipes with one usable stem.

Makes me think someone should make perishable pipe stems from candy..... Probably not worth the effort, but I bet you could pair some tobacs with a nice sweet stem for the tempting tooth:)

    That's what she said.

I gave the shank idea a passing thought. Something I may play with in the future.

I also like the green swirl lucite as well, a nice dress-up for an MM Country gent/bent or Egg/bent cob

back to the stems one of my fav cobs has a walnut stem so my question is would you need the cob to make a stem or are they standered and it would just be a matter of glueing one in i have some dogwood and persimmon that might make a good stem

Seems that most are pretty much the same. But to be safe it wouldn't hurt to have the pipe on hand.

Wow you are a true craftsman. Any way you could show a pic of your set up to drill the stem hole. I'm starting the process of learning how to make pipes. Any tips would probably help not just me but lots of the guys. Your work inspires me to create too!

I know what I need, smoke, I can't recall the last time I tasted it....Gandalf in the mines of Moria.

"we shall have to share pipes, as good friends must at a pinch'....'I keep a treasure or two near my skin, as precious as rings to me. Here's one: my old wooden pipe. And here's another an unused one...He held up a small pipe with a wide flattened bowl, and handed it to Gimli. 'Does that settle the score between us', said Merry. 'Most noble hobbit, it leaves me deep in your debt."

I use my lathe, a Jacobs chuck and a tapered 5/32 long drill bit. The bits can be ordered from McMaster Carr. The pipemakers forum has an excellent sticky on making lucite stems without a lathe.
