As some of you know, I've been blending mostly straight VA's and VaPers and letting my 6-ton hydraulic press work its magic, anywhere between 3 to 7 days. I had an idea to get some blending ideas from the forum members. So, what's your recipe? I'm looking for some ideas for perique blends, latakia blends, and maybe even a balkan or two. I have access to most all of the VA's, orientals, latakia, etc... As the blend ideas are listed, please chime in as to what you think about the poster's idea. Maybe we could use a format like:
(Name/type of baccy) - ___ %

(Name/type of baccy) - ___ %

(Name/type of baccy) - ___ %
etc...
Let's give it a whirl! Maybe we will come up with something epic! For those of you who haven't seen my "VaPer - Delicious!" thread, here are a couple of refresher pics of my setup and finished flake:

tom, that's a good one! hah! i just put the following into the press tonight:
McC 5100 red - 33% (4 oz)

Va Bright - 33% (4 oz)

SJP Perique - 33% (4 oz)

Total Batch = 12 oz
the 40% red / 40% bright / 20% perique i pressed earlier this month is simply amazing, but i wanted to try kicking the perique up a notch to see what happens.

I have a mix that I order from P&C using "My Own Blend":

50% red Virginia

25% toasted burley

25% black Cavendish

When I want something a bit tangier I substitute Perique for burley.

Were I to make one I might start with something like:
Red Virginia- 30%

Brown or stoved Virginia- 30%

Lemon/Bright Virginia- 10%

Toasted Burley- 15%

Perique- 15%

Interesting that a wooden box withstands 12,000 lbs of pressure. I can see that it has support, but, it's still interesting.

I just got my first bag of ''Bullseye'' (because it hits the spot...) from P&Cs
50% Red VA

38% Perique

12% White Burley

excellent ideas, fellas! i have a list started!
newbroom, yes the box will take the full pressure. it is made from clear white oak and the bottom is supported by the lower double i-beam on the press. if made from pine, the press would destroy it. not even a whimper out of the oak though.
also, in your blend ideas, gents, please add if it is like something, or is even the actual recipe.

I think my blend is a bit akin to Esoterica Tillbury, perhaps?
Essentially, its probably pretty close to Anniversary Kake, with the addition of some burley (for creaminess and body).

I don't have a blend suggestion but I must chime in and say you have a very nice setup and the flakes you made look delicious! :puffy:
Curious to know how you get such even slices?
