If you split the bowl into 3 as its smoked, what's your favourite third?

Mine in the last 3rd. I like the kind of musky flavour. So much so I sip sip sip away to the end. Possibly a tobacco hand thing also, I've not sampled enough to know, but I also like the cigar type bitterness the final part of the pipe gives.

Usually middle, last, first but sometimes middle, first, last, but definitely middle 3rd FTW.

Yup.. middle 3rd is best for me. The first can be bad depending on the tobacco and/or my charring flame technique. The last tends to be good to.

I prefer to divide my bowls into two parts.
If I'm clenching, I like the inside better. If I'm holding the pipe in my hand, I like the outside.

+1 to kris. I find some blends explode with taste in the middle, while others have a great start and go down from there. Rarely have I experienced a blend that would qualify as better in the last third. Based on my experience though I find that how, what, and in which pipe I smoke determines much of my experience. That is actually what I love most about this hobby.
