I am cheating here as I have supplied quite a few ancient tins to forum members over the years who have generously spread them around but I have often wondered about the ones we have never heard about. Outside of the famous 1930s Capstan tin from our dear friend in California who kindly shared it with the forum what other cutter tops have you lot cracked? How were they? Share your stories here!

Rattray - 3 Noggins blended by Rattray a 35+ years old 100g. tin.

Rattray - Black Mallory (British Collection) blended by Robert McConnell a 25+ years old 100g. tin.

Sobranie of London - Reserve Blend Scottish No.3 a 20+ years old 50g. tin.

Sobranie of London - Virginian No.10 a 20+ years old 50g. tin.

Sobranie of London - The Balkan Sobranie a 25+ years old 50g. tin.
I still have unopened old tins of Hal' O the Wynd, Old Gowrie, Red Rapparee, Jocks Mixture, Professional Mixture,

Black Virginia and Dark Fragrant from Rattray.
I really liked The Balkan Sobranie, Virginian No.10 and Black Mallory. They all benefited from rehydration as smoking them off the tin wasn't that great. I couldn't taste the Latakia for the Black Mallory and 3 Noggins but after the paper towel and plastic wrap method it was very good.

I had a 35+ year sampler of Dunhill blends that I opened this past year. Definitely brought back some memories. It is difficult to describe the difference that aging had on the tins. Sublime is the best description. Some of this is still around here somewhere...

Plenty of 20 plus year old tins. Most were better than new. The oldest was a can of Edgeworth Ready Rubbed opened at the OpC swap, now NASPC. Quite a treat!

A 1976 tin of Balkan Sobranie that was gifted to me by Mr. Lowercase. The blend was excellent and I was surprised at how fresh it tasted, the Latakia really held up well over the years. The Condor Plug and Warhorse Bar (original) that you sent me a couple of years ago were among some of the oldest I’ve tried, I know the Condor Plug was from 85 but do you remember when the Warhorse was produced? I’ve also had a tin of Escudo from 1999, a tin of Smokers Haven Krumble Kake (mid 90’s), some Bengal Slices from the 80’s and some St. Bruno RR from the Ogden era, can’t remember the year. davidintexas gifted me some, if you see this, David, can you refresh my memory? I’m currently smoking some freshly opened Murray’s Erinmore Flake from 1995 that was gifted to me from a Canadian friend of mine. I’ve had more but I’m drawing a blank at the moment.

33 year old Capstan Blue is my oldest tin to date. Luckily, it was in amazing shape and a wonderful week of smoking memories.

I've had Capstan (yellow) from the 60s, Symphony from the 70s, and Dark Twist from the 70s, from sealed tins, all very good. I've had virginia shag from the 50s which was pretty rough. I've had various vintages of OTC tobaccos like Half n Half and Velvet - the hnh was great, deer tongue shining through... and the velvet was like smoking, well, velvet. Curtains. It was smooth enough I suppose but had no real flavor.

I am currently smoking through a tin of McClelland Virginia Woods from 1998. I have never smoked this blend young, but this tin is amazing!

4500 years old. No kidding. I got five pounds of "Pharaoh's Blend" that was found in an Egyptian tomb back in the 1920's and smuggled out. Expensive---$25,000---but worth every dime. Came in a sealed stone jar and everything. The Ebay seller in Nigeria even accepted US currency. Amazing luck, huh?

Some tins of 1970 Balkan Sobranie.
Though it wasn't very aged when I smoked it in 1970....Got some Margate from 15-20 years ago which I will smoke when I get back from my trip.

Besides that 1930's and 1940's Capstan, and the 1920's Richmond blend (which was truly horrible to smoke)? Cope's Escudo from the 1950's, '60's and later, 50 yo Balkan Sobranie, 35 yo 759, 1970's State Express London Mixture, 1950's St Bruno and later, 30+ yo Rattray's blends of various descriptions, 1980's Bengal Slices, 1960's Royal Yuck, and other over-the-hill stuff whose names I have blessedly forgotten. Although, that old Garfinkle's was a wonderfully smelly blend.
I suppose it doesn't count that I was smoking a lot of this crap when it was fresh in the '70's, '80's, etc.

F&J Smith’s “Glasgow Smoking Mixture” in a cutter top from 1937 (gifted to me by Andy Camire). And an awesome “Yahweh’s Flake” dating from the seventh day (bought off of eBay; you wouldn’t believe how much feedback the seller had).
