I experimented with various virginias and Turkish Izmir over the summer and fall this past year and I've found that, to my taste, a number of virginias work well the Izmir. The exact amounts of each vary depending on the virginia(s) I use, but it's about 75% Va to 25% Izmir.

Regularly smoke a 50/50 blend of Apple and Sugar Barrel. I also add a pinch of Walnut (a lighter English) with various aromatics. This adds some flavor to the smoke w/out affecting the room note.

For whereas men of an older school, like myself, smoke for the pleasure of smoking...

The only thing I've blended so far is remains of tobacco not amounting to more than half an ounce. I've mixed Blue Mountain with Frog Morton on the Town, RLP-6 with 7seas Royal, and 1792 Flake with Burley Light and MV-1000 (Virginia). All have been enjoyable. Heck I never cared for 1792 until I mixed it with the other stuff.

    Walnut's great!

Walnut, Apple and Sugar Barrel are all from John Middleton. Walnut and SB avail in tubs only, Apple in pouch only.

    Good selection here: http://www.milantobacco.com/middletonproducts.htm

P&C sells 14 oz. cans of Carter Hall for $27 and 12 oz. cans of Walnut for $29.

BTW, Walnut is not made in anything but the 12 ounce can now. However, 4Noggins does sell Walnut by the ounce as bulk (I think they simply open a can to do this).
