With the never ending attacks on the tobacco industry, I've thought for a while that alcohol would be the next target. The same arguments are being used and I fear they will inevitably bring the same sort of legislation that the tobacco industry is suffering.

The argument is: "Underage and Adult Excessive Drinking Accounts for Half of U.S. Alcohol Sales"

"These numbers unmask the alcohol industry's addiction to underage and adult excessive drinkers, a dependence the beer, wine and liquor industries must shake if we are to reduce the public costs and private agony of alcohol misuse and abuse..."

The definition for excessive drinking is over 2 drinks a day for men and 1 drink for women.

    CASA White Paper

So, what is the definition of excessive intervention? A little trampling of free speech is okay if teetotalers and Betty Ford are involved.

I'm really curious to know if they'll increase the penalty for home distillation. For now, I'm only hard-headed enough to be willing to brew beer. Much more of this kind of thing from interlopers might just make me pissed enough to go and a start up a good mash.

I fear that the "slippery slope" has finally unveiled itself. Alas we are becoming a nanny state, like much of Europe. It just took us longer. Didn't we just a couple hundred years ago fight a war for independence to rid ourselves of excessive government meddling?

The slope is indeed slippery, and as we shall find out endless.
