First of all, what a great site!
Can someone with a more developed palate help me figure out what is the unique element of Frog Morton that makes the flavor so interesting? Is that Latakia, or a casing of some kind? I taste a lesser degree of the same flavor in Boswell's Northwoods. If I knew what that was, it might make it easier to find other blends that I like.
I tried Charles Fairmorn Lancer's Slices, but all I got was the smokiness without the flavor. Next on the quest will be Squadron Leader & Larry's Blend. Any input welcome!

I've only smoked Frog Morton on The Town, so this might not be too accurate. But I do believe what you are tasting is the Latakia.

Welcome, yahcela.
Yup, it's the latakia. You might also like any of the Seattle Pipe Clubs blends.

I think Frog Morton is fairly similar to Seattle Evening.

Yep its the Latakia. Rember not all blends use the same amounts of Latakia and not from the same regions so you get different taste strengs and smell from different blends.

Thanks for the info. "Seattle Evening" is now on the growing list of things that I will buy instead of a new garage door (and various other home improvements). After all, one cannot do home improvement projects without being in the right frame of mind, and I'm not in the right frame of mind if I cannot have a good pipe.
How about Latakia blends, similar to these, that are available as a flake?

The Penz is the next one I am trying out, soon as I get through some of the blends I currently have... 16 blends is way too much to have lying around, especially when half are aromatics which don't store well.
