It's a keeper blend if you want a highly charged aro with tons of flavor. I've enjoyed it every time I have smoked it.

I enjoy many Standard of PA tobacco blends, but the Bar is not in my wheelhouse. Tender stomach!

I know that you believe you understood what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

I like the regular Warhorse much better, but Green is good.

I like them both. The Green will ghost a briar. I smoke it in a cob or a meer, and I think the Green would ghost a meer over time.

It did take me a while to let them grow on me. But, I like all three of the WarHorse types. The RR for during the day, when I don't want to be queasy while I am doing stuff, and the red and green I interchange. I tend to smoke the red more often, but the green always gets me compliments from the others in the room.
These blends need to get more attention, as they are a unique American take on the Lakeland, without all of the bad stuff we think of as Lakelands. IMO

If you don't like really strong blends, I would suggest the RR. It has all of the aromatic qualities, without as much of the jetfuel. I know that almond liqueur isn't in the recipe, but that is what I think of as I smoke it.

Green: Very strong stuff and definitely will ghost any pipe but that Ready Rubbed (Black tin) was quite enjoyable, multidimensional let put it this way, good strength being not too low neither too high and there is a dark Fired leaf in this with a hint of perique and no latakia which suits me well.

I have tried the Red and didn`t like the topping. I found it to be very chemical and it reminded me of low quality flavored cigars. Which is too bad because the nicotine content rocks.

Yes indeed, and why I am also entitled to the opinion that its gaudy to take the brand name of a classic Irish Gallagher's blend and fill the tin with a dissimilar sutliff tobacco. Thankfully these are just opinions and not facts, and hopefully I won't be censored for expressing my opinion on this matter as others have been in the past.

The fact is that all of the Standard Tobacco blends are made in North Korea at the Dear Leader Pipe Tobacco Company #7. They take criticism rather personally. So if any naysayers have disappeared, well that’s just what happens sometimes.

In all honesty I don't believe Sutliff would volunteer to make this stuff for its own account as there is nothing quite like it on the market. There was always a War Horse Red kicking around till the early 1980s but War Horse Green was a pure invention of the 'Mad Men' at SToP's advertising department! As an after thought it tastes nothing like Mixture 79 as far as I am aware and you are absolutely correct about criticizing the product - people have been un-personed for doing that in the past

You can't even enjoy a bowl of Three Nuns, Escudo, or now War Horse, without a toothless old curmudgeon coming along with his walker and chest high slacks and tell us with a toothless mawl that it's not the same, it was once better. Who cares? I will never ever try old Three Nuns or War Horse, and if I did, and if I prefer the newer versions, I may not like that older stuff.
It just ruins things for those of us who enjoy what is available right now, and the whining of geezers is background noise.

People have been banned for being being anal pores and violating the forum rules, not for being critical.

Except for the few that Mr. Kim has chained to a tobacco thresher outside Pyongyang.

I wanted to like it, I really did. Waited anxiously to finally get some after the release and all I got was the taste/smell of Play Doh. I didn't mind the ready rubbed occasionally, although the taste was still there but very much muted. I know everybody's palate is different but I couldn't handle the Red or Green

Let's call a spade a shovel here. From my lowly vantage point as a barely mortal but quite active participant, mlc was not banned for criticizing Std. Of P, but for going off the rails and becoming abusive. I still hope to see him back here one day.

Haven't you ever seen that famous picture of Stalin walking with his henchmen by the river. One of them said he 'Really didn't like War Horse Green' and in the next picture he had been airbrushed out from the picture and never heard from again. Coincidence? Maybe he just had an urgent errand to run and was not in the next frame of film.

My pipe smoking friends think I am strange, But I love most of the Gawith Hoggarth Kendal Flake Lakeland tobaccos.

My fellow pipesmoking mates won't touch these with a ten foot pole.

I feel I will like War horse green. But my question is this.

Does War-Horse-Green, taste more like Ennerdale or Glengarry or Grasmere or Kendal flake?

Also how does G.L.Pease StoneHenge flake compare? As I have not smoked that yet either.

I would love to try some Condor plug, But I have never seen it for sale in the United States.

None of the WarHorses are what I would call a Lakeland at all. They are closer to Condor, but I guess that would be like comparing it to the taste of Jupiter if you've never had access to it. No, they don't sell it here at all. You have to get someone from England to send you some.

And, it does not compare at all With Greg's Stonehange. Apples and Grapefruits.

To me, the Warhorses are a strong blend of Dark Virginias and burleys, with an almond furniture polish and playdough topping added. At first it doesn't sound appealing, but when combined they real make for an awesome smoke.

I've only had the red, as every time I go to order RR or Green, I remember how much I love the Red and buy more. I'd love to know what it tastes like with age, but I just keep smoking it. I don't know that I would actually compare it to Condor, or anything for that matter. Get some, smoke it, give it away if you don't like it and buy more if you do. I'm sorry it isn't the original War Horse, but the world moved on and this is what we have. Actually, don't give it away. Give it a few bowls before you decide that.

I was afraid at first that the Green was going to be menthol, but no. It is merely a different take on the flavor, maybe a tad stronger.
I was thinking it in the same vein as Condor in that it is indescribable or hard to describe.

I'll have to order a green next time. It sounds quite intriguing. I thought it was just stronger, but if it's a different view of the same flavor, sweet.

The Green was a 'spin off' idea as there was never a War Horse Green back in the day. I like it, which is saying something given my crap taste in tobacco! Back in the day War Horse was available as 'ready rubbed' and they even had War Horse cigarettes in packets of ten. I just cannot image how bad those were for your lungs! My only regret is we could never get the stuff made as a threshed leaf plug so we had to accept whatever was on offer courtesy of the FDA deadline.

I've been fortunate so far, plus I read a lot of reviews before purchase.

I've only gotten one blend in 8 months that I just can't smoke and enjoy.

Russ' Angler's Dream, believe it or not. That cinnamon in my pipe just does not work for me.

I'm sitting on it for a while to see if my mouth changes its mind, but I lack optimism on the matter.

I am curious; Who exactly created War Horse Green? Was it Russ Ouellette? I would love to hear the story of what they where shooting for condidering this tobaccos casings and flavor profile. Was it to be similar to a Gawith-Hoggarth tobacco or Condor or Mixture 79?

Russ, Simon and I developed the Warhorse line. Russ was the blender, and he and I worked together on the flavor profile. The Lehigh Valley Pipe Club and JimInks were our focus group.

What you find in the tin is the result of Russ's mad skilz as a flavormeister.

It may shed some light to explain that alcohol was involved in many of our product development sessions.

Where you been Shanelktown? It's been a while since I've seen you around here. In keeping with the thread, yes I like all of the War Horse stable, but need to revisit them. In preferably smaller pipes for the Red and Green
