It may be a good ploy if the corn cob pipe smoker is the target market for the product. Seems like an awfully small market, perhaps just for the State of Missouri?

Some marketing guy thought if you smoke a cob you have to love shine. Or vice versa. But it is interesting.

"Premiums" used to be everywhere. Banks gave away TV's and toasters. Gas stations gave away sets of drinking glasses. Cereal boxes had enclosed toys. This is both corny, so to speak, and a long and honorable tradition. I like the pipes, so I like the promotion, probably better than I'd like the beverage. I like my whiskey smooth.
