Hello,
I saw my friend smoking pipe and he introduced me to the pipe smoking.

He has such a generous heart and gave me one of his Briar pipe.

That's how I got started in March though I really got started smoking in May.
I did not understand why people would smoke a pipe.

I smoked again few days ago, and I started to taste that smell that my friend was talking about!

Man, that was phenomenal. Now I feel like that pipe smoking is going to be my life-style.
But before I smoke again on Briar, I read somewhere that the longer I do not smoke on Briar (or the longer I leave Briar "unsmoked"), the better the taste will be when I smoke.

Is that true?

If it is, what would be the adequate amount of time needed for the best taste?
Thanks for the answers in advance!

Where did you read that - just curious.
The longer you leave a pipe unsmoked, the longer you could have been smoking it. Seems like wasted time to me! If it's properly cured in the first place, to my mind, there isn't much that sitting around time is going to do for flavor.

I HAVE read that older stock Briar that has sat around for a few decades has better smoking properties because it's had more time to dry and age.
I don't buy it, but it is said.

Briar needs to dry and be cured before carving, but you don't need to age your briar pioes. Now, as a new pipe smoker, you do need to "rest" you pioes after smoking them...you should let a pipe rest at least 3-4 days after smoking it. If you are going to be a regular pipe smoker, look at getting a few more pipes, corncobs are a great option, to be able to rotate your pipes and not have them get sour. Welcome to the forum and hobby...there's lots of great info on this site..,enjoy and don't ever be afraid to ask questions

Could the gentleman be referring to resting a pipe between smokes instead of aging an unsmoked pipe?

pipesmokingtom and cigrmaster,

Thanks for your posts!
and pipesmokingtom,

unfortunately I do not remember the source...
NOLA Cajun,

I should get some pipes for rotation.

Thanks for the tip and warm welcomes!
darwin,

Yes, resting a pipe between smokes was what I was referring to.

Thanks for the clarification!
