The story concedes only 15 percent of the population smokes, but the helpful government thinks that is too many.

No mention of pipes, but click on:

I have enough tobacco to last to 2300 at the rate I'm smoking right now.

50 years? LOL Pipe smokers are a dying breed now. I think it will be a small miracle if you can still buy pipe tobacco 25 years from now much less 50.

Historically, when Behavior Overlords jam people too tightly into a corner, nothing good comes of it. Among the jam-ees are always enough independent-minded ones who are willing to lay it all on the line to be left alone.

The next few decades are going to be existentially pivotal in that regard for humans since there's nowhere left to go. No more far-off lands, no more frontiers. (Sorry, Kirk and Picard, FTL ain't gonna happen soon enough to do any good).

No doubt pipe smoking---indeed tobacco use of any kind---will be a line item on the newest Behavior Overlord "Don't List", but there will be so much OTHER crap on it that a critical mass of pissed off people will be achieved, and the price of poking that bear will be paid.

We pipe smokers are a dying breed now.

In fifty years, I will be no more, and pipe smokers will be meeting underground to trade home grown tobacco. (marijuana grow lights no longer needed, but clandestine tobacco growers will use them)

I know that you believe you understood what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Ahh yes, our wonderful Behavior Overlords.

George, I get the impression you're not planning to willingly move into a Smart City Micro-apartment and adapt to the new "sustainable" Utopian way of life.

You probably won't even learn to eat your ration of lab-grown meat.

    Indeed.

^ That's perfect...and kind of scary. It'd be funny if it didn't so accurately reflect the way things are progressing.

Achtung, in Finland the Gov accepted this very Bill of law as well, and now what we see, as a result, is omnipresent tax increases ever year, for instance ,starting from 2020 a pack of factory-made cigarettes will go as high as euro 10($12) and basic 1,75oz pouch of Mc Baren Symphony or Amphora will set You back for 22e($25)hows that sounds, BUT as the saying goes'if there is a will there is a way ,hate that W.H.O (mafia own its own)it was their idea initially and they had launched this further

It's times like these (which is also most of the time) I'm glad I'm a bachelor because the cries of "think of the children" as they clutch their Pearl's has no effect on me and likely never will, as I don't have any ankle biters.
