Recently I picked up Savory's Robin Hood 189 Full bent billiard size 6++ on Ebay.

It is a beautiful condition pipe. No cake, very clean, almost fresh rim like new.

May be a previous owner smoke a few times only. Except one thing. One side has darker grain then other side.

It's looks like fade out by sun lights. Seller said it is two tone pipe but I'd doubt it.

I want to keep the pipe and try to make same darkness color on both side of pipe.

Please help what should I do? Should I have to sand and buffing? Any other way?

Here are some pictures.

Definitely looks like it was exposed to sunlight from one side. You could try alcohol and 0000 steel wool to lighten up the dark side, but getting it to match would be very tricky. Your best would be lighten the dark side, then restain the whole pipe.

Looks like the stem on the lighter side is lighter in color as well. Perhaps oxidation from being exposed to sunlight... My opinion is the seller was blowing smoke up your @$$. I say either take it down to wood and restain it, or leave it as is and smoke the thing, but at least de-oxidize that stem. Very nice looking pipe, otherwise.

Yeah, it's faded on the left side. The stem oxidation makes it pretty obvious. That looks like it was originally stained black, sanded and then stained brown. It's tricky to recreate. If I had it I'd dilute some Dark Brown and try to get the light side to match the dark side. Repeat coats until it looks good. That's a nice pipe. No need to be more invasive than necessary.

I have some older faded pipes. I got the stem perfect and just waxed the bowl. They look okay.

+1 Cortez, or if Cortez is Tony, plus five or whatever it is now. It's an interesting

pipe with unique wear. Leave it be.

It's only upon on my experience.

1. Apply a little bit of Extra Virgin Olive oil on the lighter side.

Leave it 1 day and then wipe out. --- It make a color little darker.

2. Buffing and polishing with Dialux white compound all side.

3. Thick polishing coat with Carnaubar Wax on all side.

Little bit of olive oil won't hurt briar and can use on stem too.

Amen, polish the stem and leave it like it is right now.
The contrast in the stain color matches the changes in grain contrast.
Now I want to try to do that on purpose!

Tell that seller he is full of it, this is a two tone pipe.

That said, I agree on fixing the stem and leaving it.

Many thanks to everyone. daimyo that's the two tone Indeed.

It is so nice condition pipe. So clean the stem and I will leave it as is.

I do expect it will be a good smoker and one day after many smoke color will change a bit.
