I have a goodly chunk of maple in my shop and since I already have two maples in my rotation; An MM Maple Diplomat and a home made, I decided to make a few more. This is the result. The DA is large, maybe too large but you can load it up and watch Cecil B Demills, 'The Ten Commands' without re-loading. Anyway for better or worse here them is.

First up: Naked Maple Lovat - The ring is Bloodwood

Last - A briar DA

Wouldn't you know it. A pit on the rim on the right hand side. It doesn't look near as bad in person as it does in the pics. Grade 1 Algerian plateaux briar.

I love that Devil Anse, pit and all. I would ONE THOUSAND times rather see a natural looking pit than an artificial looking fill. Often, they just add a splash of character, anyway.

Thank you all for the kind comments.

Jim - Your pocket DA is drawn out, pre-cut and going on the lathe today

A Dunhill group 4 as per your request and about 4 3/8" in length. I will send pics as soon as it's off the lathe
Isaac - This is just my take on the smoking properties of maple but I have found both of mine to be good smokers and to be honest, I could discern no detectable difference between them and my briars. No background taste, don't burn hot. Hope that helps
