I was wondering if "Turkish tobacco" was considered an oriental tobacco, I thought it was only used in cigarettes.

The terms Turkish and Oriental are often used interchangeably, but I believe Oriental is the actual tobacco type. It has smaller leaves than its Virginia and Burley cousins and is typically sun-cured. When fire-cured you get Latakia.
Oriental tobacco has less nicotine than Virginia and Burley but is more aromatic. In its raw form it smells like tea to me.

Could you smoke straight Orientals? I suppose you COULD, but it would be like having a meal of nothing but oregano. Or rosemary.
