I just got another custom cob from Riccardo Santia today. This thing hardly looks like a cob anymore, and weighs in at a whopping 3 oz. He did a 6 panel "Corndog" as he calls it, w/smooth & textured sides along with his standard briar bottom. The shank is briar and the shank ring is bone.

Roth, it smokes very nice :D It stayed cool for the entire 1 1/2 hour smoke with only one relight because I set it down for a few minutes.

I can't believe that is a cob, but either way it is very nice.

nice pipe! i'm wondering if the shank rind all the way into the bowl like regular cobs or if it just butts up.

Great Pipe, that has to be one of the nicest cob pipe I have ever seen.

I would not have guessed that is was a cob pipe.

Like it a lot, well done.

I forgot to post this last week when I got the answer from Riccardo.
"Good question, the shank does not go into the cob, what I do is drill a hole into the shank and add another round piece of briar so, half the briar goes into the shank and the other half goes into cob. this is the way MM did it back in the day. its more work but will hold much better."
