Greetings from Canada
I'm a brand new member as of about 15 minutes ago and have already read half a dozen interesting posts. Very interesting hobby you all participate in!
I'm a guy with many hobbies. Too many really. I've been smoking a pipe occasionally for about a decade. I purchased a Brigham pipe and it's the only pipe I've smoked to this point. I enjoy it and it serves me well. I have no idea where that pipe fits in as far as quality etc, but it keeps me happy when I want to have a smoke.
Today I may or may not have stumbled on a great little find. I was at an auction and found a little lot of 8 pipes. I think 3 right off the bat are of very little value. The other 5 may be of value I'm not sure. This is where I'm looking to your community for a little help. I purchased the pipes having not touched them or even been within 10 feet of them. They came up and I bid. I bid low and was the only bidder.
Can anyone help me identify roughly the age and price range of these pipes? I'm likely going to smoke them all unless you advise me otherwise and keep the 2 I like the most.
This is what I have and their corresponding makers marks. I don't have a way of posting pictures to the intenet and linking it to here. Is there a way I can post pictures right on the forum or is that not permitted?
1)

Dunhill

Duke St S.W. A
Inner Tube

Patented 1914 39 or 3D (not sure of the markings)
(there is no inner tube that I can see)
2)

Sashar

London Made
901
3) Loewe

London W
Theres an oval with L&Co inside of it
4)

Yello-Bole

2705 (maybe a u?) a clover looking emblem with KBB inside
Algerian Bruyere
On the stem there is a gold looking circle
5)

Ben Wade

Natural Grain
Made in Leeds

England 20W
Stem has a oval with B.W
If anyone has some insight, please feel free to comment. I'm really in the dark when it comes to these pipes but I have a feeling they may be quality pipes.
Thank you and take care!

Greg

The Dunhill is a classic. Patent era. It should smoke well, and depending on the condition, might be worth so money. But just smoke it. Its a classic.
Loewe is another classic. Should be a great smoker.
Same with the Yello and Ben Wade.
You have yourself a nice little collection. Now go smoke them.

Awesome guys! Thanks for the warm welcome. Aesthetically they look pretty darn good. Can you point me to one of the preferred maintenance threads on your forum that discusses cleaning and preservation? I don't want to damage anything or ruin the patina if there's such a thing in the pipe world but would like to clean them to a serviceable fashion.
Thanks again
Greg

Welcome to the forum from sunny southwestern Ontario.

Sounds like you did well on these pipes. Enjoy.

Where abouts in Canada are you? :puffy:

I'm located around Carrying Place Ontario. Getting hammered with snow right now! Might have to sneak away to the garage and have a smoke and Burbon to celebrate! Ashdigger, thanks for the info! Wow I have some real history here! Super excited about that.

Lot's of snow falling in that area today.

I'm down near Windsor, much milder and no snow left on the ground.

Stay warm and enjoy a good bowl or two. :puffy:

Definetley a newbie question, will I damage the Dunhill smoking it without the inner tube in it? As I mentioned the tube is MIA

No damage to be done without the innertube. Very few still have them, when you can find them.

OK,
#1 A very rare old Dunhill pipe, and quite valuable. Pipes from this period are the least seen of Dunhill pipes. The kind of pipe that any kind of restoration work should be done by a professional, any mistakes, and the value decreases significantly.

#2 Sashar was a Sasieni made line for the South African market.

#5 Another collectable old English pipe,

In terms of value and collectability (allowing for condition) the Dunhill exceeds all of the other four, in both regards, combined!
Pictures?

dmcmtk, Thanks, I will read through all of that tomorrow. I'm not sure how to ad pics? When I click on IMG it wants me to insert a URL. I don't have any online storage of photos

A word to the wise, NOT the kind of pipes you want to "learn" on.
Pictures, depends on the device...the software can be a bit cumbersome if you haven't used it before.
PM sent.
