I am a new pipe smoker, and I have been trying a lot of different tobbaccos. My favorites so far has been (I forget the brand name) Blue Note and Trout Stream ffrom Pipes and Cigars. I was wondering what suggestions you guys have, or any cheaper samplers to give me a better idea of what I like so I don't spend all my money on tobacco :mrgreen:

check out the Frog Morton sampler they are a blend line I always recommend to new pipe smokers.

For a new smoker, for an aromatic, I might suggest Lane's LL-7; for a non-aromatic burley, Lane's Burley
Without Bite; for a pleasant introductory Virginia, McClelland's 5100; and for an introductory English,
either Altadis Fox and Hound, Dunhill's My Mixture 965, or Sutliff's Westminster, a surprisingly pleasant,
and reasonably priced English. Read on Forums; something is always being reviewed, described,
recommended, or occasionally blasted.

Some here believe that if you have money at the end of the month, you haven't purchased enough tobacco.
I recommend 50 gram tins. You'll difinitely have some hits and misses, but in my opinion you should really smoke a good 10 - 12 bowls of any particular mixture before making up your mind; occasionally you may find one that after a few bowls you'll want to toss, but I recommend buying quality blends and really giving them a chance.

If you like bulk as opposed to tinned tobacco my personal favorite is Pipeworks/Wilke, It's a one woman operation owned by
Carol Burns in Montpelier Vermont. Her blends run the gamut from full strength English and oriental to fruit and liquor laden aromatics. She uses only the finest naturally cased tobaccos out of the 6 blends I tried only one didn't knock my socks off. She keeps an old fashioned index card file on all her customers and will customize any blend to your specifications. Her prices are significantly higher than the larger companies like C&D or McClellands but worth every penny

Tins are nice indulgences but their costs add up. I suggest you try bulk samples of 2-4 oz. quantities. Your costs will allow more experimentation and your education less costly.

I too, am a new pipe smoker and have been smoking Smoker Friendly Jamaican Rum blend. I cannot compare this to any other tobacco as it is the only brand/blend I have been smoking, but I can say, I enjoy it very much. I know it won't be too long before I seek to try something new.
Last summer was my first go at smoking tobacco pipe so I'm definitely going through the learning process. I like you read a ton of posts and asked for suggestions then bought different tobaccos to try. I tried the frog Morton cellar but I'm not there yet to strong for me at this point. I bought a few samples from Boswell and son and the one out of 4 that I bought that is now my go to backie is Pipers Pleaser the other tobacco I kind of like but not as much as P.P.is sutliff molto dolce.
Oh wow where do I start any aromatic from Boswells is solid cornell and deihl autumn evening, lane rlp6, dan tobacco devils holiday, dan tobacco davinci one I recently tried and was delicious, frog Morton series has been highly recommended, Scotty's butternut burly. Of course, all the other recommendations above will work too.... just don't over-extend your
wallet, taste buds, and/or your common sense ability to make clear decisions on your preferences.
And don't let anyone try to tell you all aromatics are crap and your tastes need to "mature" away
from them or "graduate" to latakia or other "sophisticated" blends.... you'll soon know what you
like and what you don't!
