Been smoking the same 4 estate Peterson System Standards for years. Never really thought much about a new pipe because mine were still doing fine.
Wish I could say it "spoke to me", but the truth is, it slapped me upside the head, grabbed me by the throat and screamed "you must have me"

Thank you doctor, I feel much better now that I've vented.

Aside from the decorative element, that looks exactly the same as my Straumbach Meerschaum. Great choice!

Thanks Mike,
I think it's somewhat reminiscent of the "Lee Van Cleef pipe" (minus the coloring, which will take some time)
Given the "outrageous" price of $50, I have no intentions to handle it with gloves or anything like that, but I do have questions...
I've heard about different stem to tenon fittings on meers and I'm not sure how to go about determining which type this is. Do I just gently twist the stem clockwise to see if it detaches?

Quite a stunning meer you got there. For the low, low price of $50, I'd say it's a pretty good deal for a very nice looking pipe. Nice acquisition!

I'm not a Meer guy, but that's a Meer I'd like if I decided to get one. I like the understated quality, the traditional shape, and I think it will color nicely.

I bought a lot of tobacco and a lot of pipes. Early and mid-course I liked buying tobacco more because that sweet-smoking pipe that smoked so very well that many others claimed to have never came my way; but tobacco, you could never have too much. But reading the collectors guys posts made me feel that pipes were, after all, most deserving of my dollars, so my allegiance shifted.
Considering that my collection stands at 50 pipes, half briar and half cob, and of those 25 briar only three are between $200.00 and $300.00 and most under $100.00, I did pretty well controlling spending.
Even so, the temptation to get that pipe, and the next and the next can be formidable.

Bassbug, my stem just pulls out like a normal briar pipe. Is yours a Straumbach? None of that screw nonsense in it hopefully.

Since my favorite carved retired, I only buy his pipes when they pop up ocassionally, and the here and there estate to restore, but that is a lovely meer. :clap:
