...and it appears to be all one piece:

I'm not a big fan of long shanks,

but that's pretty damn impressive.
Maybe this post can have images of various long shank pipes,

either ones you own or have seen online...
...they are interesting to look at!

That's a piece of excellent craftsmanship. Also looks like it would be fun to smoke in a Victorian church.

I bet you were a normal happy boy until you became obsessed with black metal music!
Just kidding,

couldn't resist!

But seriously...

...I actually like the fact that a certain element of the Norwegian population stand up to defend their historical culture, sometimes there is no other way to adequately express centuries of sociological oppression by outside forces but to burn a church.
Whom destroys whom is the question:

And, this sort of mentality still prevails in many circles,

so I sympathize with the Black Metallers...

It seems certain that not only animals, but also human beings (even kings), were sacrificed to the gods, of whom Thor and Odin were the most important. These and other heathen rituals like drinking, believing in trolls, etc., were deeply rooted in the Norwegian people and it took many centuries to break some of these traditions."

More right than you know -- that and Sam Huntington, Alexis de Tocqueville, Plato and Fred "Mad Dog" Nietzsche.
The root of it all comes down to something Vikernes said in the film Until the Light Takes Us: that when he was younger, he would take his BB gun to a hill and shoot out the windows in the local McDonald's.
Is it Christianity they fight, or a lack of animism (the root of heathen/pagan belief, in my view)?

Thanks for the link, Misterlowercase. What a pipe.
"My Don Carlos. Also a solid shank. Great smoker too."
Great looking pipe, Shaintiques. Must take a chunk of briar to make a smoker like that. How old is it?

This one is probably from the 70's. And yes had to take a chunk of briar. And what is also cool though the pic is dark, the pipe has nice straight grains the whole length of the shank on both sides. Not only was it a big block but a very nice block. Don Carlos made a few of these but most were rusticated.
