Great morning read with a gentle perspective on the yesterday vs. today thing.

The article title though.... "Anticipation" has become todays brainworm! Not a bad thing really (-:

Good read with the morning coffee and pipe

"The fact is, squire, the moment a man takes to a pipe, he becomes a philosopher. It's the poor man's friend; it calms the mind, soothes the temper, and makes a man patient under difficulties. It has made more good men, good husbands, kind masters, indulgent fathers, than any other blessed thing on this universal earth."

God I loved my big wheel in the 90's... never got tired of it. NEVER. I guess the next step is a motorcycle.

Great time to be a pipe smoker!

I kind of want to smoke a pipe while riding a big wheel now... is that strange?

Maybe, but I actually have mentally designed an adult Big Wheel so you're not alone. I'll have to add a baccy pouch and pipe holder to the design.

Great read, Russ! I also started smoking a pipe in the '70's, and was in the business for about 8 years (Tinder Box) starting around '78, so I can relate to what you're saying. I also miss some of the old blends that are gone now, especially my beloved Bengal Slices. I recently acquired some Bengal slices from a friend from the late '80's, and savor a bowl once in a while when I want something really special. But the good news is we do have so many good blends to chose from now, and pipe smoking is on the upswing again.

I was just thinking the same, when reading on another forum of a who posted the pix of that Rad-Desian in the article that he just purchased. I get Rads tantalizing newsletter and that pipe was less than $400 I believe. A real beauty and good example of a modern golden age. Brian Ruthenbergs pipes do the same thing to me!

I think that Russ' Black House is as fine a tobacco blend as was ever produced. I have tried dozens and dozens of tobaccos and have finally found that one blend that makes everything else taste...less than. It has full Balkan flavor a decent nicotine hit, without being overwhelming and a complex blend of flavors that reveal how good a blender Russ is, I never have tried 759 but I cannot see where it could taste much better than Black House. Russ, my hat is off to you sir.
