So, I've been looking to at a set of pipes on Amazon really closely, but haven't been gone for one yet.
To try and help me make up my mind, did a bit of internet research to try and figure out where these $30-55 "Chaipus-Comoy Luxor" pipes are coming from and instead stumbled across this handy little flow-chart that easily lays out the history of Chacom brands and how they ended up where they are:

(Get the full website here)
As to the search, I haven't been able to discover much. The only maker marking on the pipes says "LUXOR" - But, if these are made by the Chacom folks, the stamp of a "2" on these pipes suggests that they are a low-grade line put out under the old label of "Chapuis-Comoy."

I was looking at the Luxor pipes on Amazon too; they look like decent pipes for a reasonable price. As I understand it, there are different series of Luxor pipes, and each is marked with a number-- 1, 2 or 3. Each series appears to have a different finish; not sure if there are other differences (maybe someone here knows more about it than I do). I read somewhere that the Luxors are Chacom seconds; not sure if that's correct or not.

Ah, that explains the number.
If they are seconds, they are not half bad. Some of them are quite handsome.

Wow, that's nice and complicated! A good reminder of how involved the French were in the whole briar pipe phenomenon.

I love Chacom Pipes. I have 4 of them. I have a Lazur but it is nothing like those on Amazon. But, from an earlier post I made about it here, it was thought that it was a much older pipe.

@eaglerico!
Your second and third picture makes me really jealous. I've been looking for a Chacom acorn shape (specifically the Match series in a shape 95) and finally found one on Smoking Pipes, but a day before I had the money to get it, the pipe sold.... :cry:
Yours look absolutely brilliant. Chacom acorns are the best looking pipes, elegant lines, always have great grains.
So, so jealous.

I just found a Jost Supreme bent bulldog at the antique mall, I read online that it was essentially a Comoy or some other subsidiary. I wonder how it fits into your flow chart. Apparently it was a good find though they had the same squat bulldog for sale at smoker's haven for $75.

WOW! These are some truly beautiful looking pipes. I have to say that I am thoroughly impressed. Oklansas, thanks for the flow cart, and thank you, Eaglerico, for the beautiful pics.
I have been eyeballing a couple of Chacoms myself, and was curious about their quality. Seeing "real life" up close pics does a LOT to erase my doubt and make me more comfortable with going ahead on my purchases. Now I just need to come up with the money! 8O
