While visiting Texas last month I came across a small B&M in San Marcos. 'Hill Country Humidor' is right

on the square down town. A very 'down home' place to visit with people smoking pipes and cigars, sitting

on benches and sofa's just as you walk in the door. You could tell it had been there for quit some time,

but I had no idea how long until looking it up later. There was a young good lookin' Gal that served me

and helped with all my inquiries. I really wanted a new brier, but being on a vacation budget, ended up

buying a couple of new clay pipes and they threw in two ounces of tobacco, my choice. I told the Gal that

I'm partial to English blends.... not knowing if she knew anything about tobacco. She steered me toward

a house blend call San Antonio Rose, which didn't sound like an English, but I absolutely love it and it's

while trying to get more that I found out the shops story... (I wish Shirley all the luck in the world!)

Wow. I would have enjoyed meeting Rob and hanging out at his shop. I bet he made the lives of everyone he met that much better. I'm going to pack a bowl in my cob just for him :puffpipe:

I actually helped renovate the building on the square in about 1994. The shop was originally about half a block off the square. I lived on the square at the time and asked if they needed any help. Rob bought me breakfast every morning, kept me stocked on American Spirit's, and payed me a decent wage for a college town. Glad to see the place is still going strong.

Sylvia of 'Hill Country Humidor' just returned my call, and unfortunately she can't mail me any

tobacco. But, I have a daughter in San Antonio and a son in Austin, so I'll talk one of them

into making the trip for me. It's turns out that Sylvia was the good lookin' Gal that served me

last month. (She asked if I was that older gentleman with a big bushy mustache).

If you live near San Marcos, be sure to swing by to have a look, and if you like English blends,

try their San Antonio Rose. It's Great!

I go there almost all the time. So far my favorite is "San Marcos oz". Don't now what kind of tobacco that is though.
