After months of noodling around, carving tampers, I've hit a streak of some fairly good ones that I like. This, I feel, is the best I've produced yet and thought I'd share it with you guys.
Made of walnut, its about six inches long and cut from a 3/4" blank, tapered down to 5/8" and finished with a copper band to add some weight and accent at the base. It's designed to fit just about any normal to magnum sized pipe of any depth. The photos kind of suck. I realized after I took them the dark color combined with my horrible photography skills really didn't do it justice.
Thanks for looking;

Nice work cajunguy! I like the rusticated texture closest to the brass on the last picture.

Thanks,I've been experimenting with cutting spirals.I drew them ,then used a small file to get them started and then used a Dremel with a 1/4" samding drum. It works,but takes a steady hand or the Dremel will take to much off one side or the other.My hands ain't as steady as they once were! Think sandpaper/dowel may be the way to go.

Wow that is killer! You should make one for the tamper trade. Where did you get the brass piece?

The metal is actually a copper pipe fitting I got at Home Depot. :D This is the first time I've experimented with putting bands or any sort of metal to wood, so I went on the cheaper side (20 to a pack) before I invested in real bands. I sanded off the rough edges, polished it up, and then fit it to the wood.

Had some time to be creative today and made this one. Same copper end, but this time made of cherry wood, roughly the same dimensions as the other.
