I second the resolution to attend a pipe show. Easy for me to say, since I live up the street from the venue, but

having attended several annual shows, I can attest, for those who have to travel to a show, that it's worth it. I

won't blather on, but think: information, samples, discount on pipes and tobacco, sociability, lore.

I like the last bit about smoking a pipe in public. I try to do that often, especially during the work week. Since I work downtown, there are a lot of people who'll take notice and give the odd looks. I've only spotted 3-4 other pipe smokers around here (in public, not in at the b&m close by).
Another resolution I have is to try and smoke through most, if not all, my samples that I've received as gifts from friends or as part of the generosity of the community. Over the last year, I've accumulated so much that I can't get to smoking the actual tobacco I've bought. A blessing and a curse (well, a curse only in the eyes of my significant other).
