Tenon too tight

Colour it with a 2B or 3B pencil, the graphite lubricates it
Tenon too slack

Paint it with clear nail polish. I suppose any colour would really work

I use bee's wax for both conditions. It lubes a tight tenon and fills the pours in the mortice to snug up a loose one unless the offending tenon is sloppy loose.

I tried the nail polish tip on my Barling TVF 5109 because the tenon was a little slack in the mortice. It worked very well indeed.
Additional tips to bear in mind when using nail polish.

1. Make sure it dries thoroughly before you put the stem back in and

2. Pink nail polish looks wierd on a black stem...lol

I use pencil graphite and Beeswax for these respective problems, with good

result. The problem of tenon fit is a big one with Meerschaums, as the

Block doesn't have the shear strength of Briar, and oddly enough the more

the Pipe is smoked, the more brittle the Block can get.
