TAMPA, Fla. -
A historic Tampa cigar factory has been destroyed in a fire.
Authorities say the roof and floors of the Palmetto Beach Cigar Factor collapsed in the fire which broke out shortly after midnight Sunday. The fire marshal said the building is considered a total loss.
It's unclear whether anyone was inside at the time. Firefighters were not able to enter the building for safety reasons. They had the fire under control in less than two hours, but were still putting out hot spots on Sunday afternoon.

Ahh man. Prayers go out to the owners, community, and anyone that may have been caught in it! Never good to see a classic B&M go down. We get enough closing due to unpopularity, we dont need'em burning to the ground!

Just reading a little more about the fire from the Tampa Tribune. Seems the building was a neighborhood eyesore and abandoned.

The way neighbors described noticing the fire sounds a little suspicious to me. Of course I'm always suspicious of commercial property fires that start in the middle of the night. Damn shame such an historic place is no more.

An abandoned eyesore burnt down in the middle of the night. It's possible it wasn't arson, but it looks most suspicious. Glad no one was in it, if so, and that no firefighters were put in peril.

From the article:
"A spokesperson for the Tampa Fire Dept said everything burned down to the bottom of the warehouse in a nice white ash. When asked how that was possible, he said the warehouse was optimally dried and packed and that they suspect after the fire initially started, it was tamped down and re-lit."
