The tins are en route Pstlpkr. I'll get back with impressions of McClelland
Anniversary 2010, as I'm anxious to try it as well. Although both the '02
and the '05 issues are good, to me the '02 issue stands above the '05, which
is a stellar blend just the same. The difference I find is likely due to
seasonal variation in character of the Virginias use to blend this favorite
of mine.
LOL! No Jason,
1Q is the mix for Fist Full of Dollars.
Let us know the verdict Fred.
My latest arrival of tobacco was waiting for my when I got home today!

So I tore into the box and found about 6 pounds of tobacco!

Its 1 pound 1Q, 1 pound BCA. 1 pound RLP-6, 1 pound of the best of the rest, and 2 packs of 12 ounce "Super Value" tobacco... I use the last to for blending experiments!
Nice pick up bubba. I have had the Lane products, how is the BOTR? I would guess it is probably the most unique "blend" you can come by.
Whoa, bubba. That's a delivery and a half. Lucky the mailman didn't throw his back out carrying it. Happy puffing.
Simon
Nice order!
Try the Super Value blends on their own as well. I did a review of the Super Value Black & Gold and it was a decent blend. I would be interested in hearing what you think of the Chocolate and Vanilla blends.
What is the BOTR blend?
When I was into aromatics I would buy a bag of Super Value Vanilla and one of Super Value cherry . Together they made a nice smoke.
Bob I will try them on their own and get back with you to let you know how they are! I could send you some if you would like to try them...
There are two ways to answer your last question "What is the BOTR blend?"
If I was to take the question at face value I would answer that BOTR stands for Best of the Rest, which is Pipesandcigars.com's trashcan blend. Or I could read into the question a little more and say that is mostly an aromatic mixture with a good portion of something I would equate to A.M. Pipe, thrown in... Over all I would say I am happy with the BOTR blend, it has a sweet, spicy, and nutty taste all rolled into one with an aftertaste I don't particularly care for. But it did stay lit the entire bowl and it burned clean and dry (maybe a little hot, but I might have been smoking fast).
Thanks for letting me know what BOTR stands for. I should have known, but it just didn't click.
Thanks for the offer of sending me some of the Super Value blends to try, but I will have to pass right now. I have so many other blends that I need to smoke that are waiting on reviews to be done.
Any blends that you want to have me ghost-review for you, I'd be happy to take those blends off your hands...
-Jason
Okay this is what I got in the mail today! It has been a good good week...

haha Lordnoble, next time the box pass comes around I will make a special bundle just for you!
Nice! Heck of a week for you Bubba!
Dang. Are you sure this wasn't supposed to go in the "what would you do if you won the TAD lottery" thread? What's the rectangular Eileen's Dream tin/box?
Simon
They are cigarillos... I had them at my local one day and really enjoyed them!
I purchased these guys yesterday....
I like the Peterson's Tobacco Pouch (valcro zipper, foldable,vinyl)...

And...The Captain Black Gold (there was senior who purchased 3 pouches, so I thought I would give it a try....(I haven't opened it up yet....)
And...Mac Baren Mixture Scottish Blend...(it's not bad, and there's a real interesting "spicy" taste ??)
I am really amazed guys at your pictures and finds...
...WOW....and 6 pounds of pipe tobacco....Holy Moly !!
You're really adding to your stash there Bubba! And nice pipe that you picked up!
Nice pick ups as well Joe! I like the tobacco pouch!
Nice pick ups guys ,I like the roll up as well .
Thanks Bob, the wife doesn't really like it but oh well! Actually my local just picked up a few pounds of blue note and the sweet honeydew from dans tobacco and at 4 an ounce it's not a bad deal, so I will probably get a few ounces of each and she can just be mad!
I wanted to try the Mac Baren Scottish Mixture yesterday, but of course, they were out of it. Apparently it is the worlds most sold blend.
Just got:
2oz. Peter Stokkebye Navy Flake
2oz. Peter Stokkebye Nougat (because of the Lord of the Rings discussion...)
-Jason
*edit* forgot last parenthesis
Let us know what you think of the Nougat after you've had a few bowls... Inquiring LoTR fans want to know!
Simon
Has anyone tried the "best of the rest" or "the cheap stuff" which is left overs of a lot of different blends thestores measured out that day mixed together. It seems to me it would taste like poo. I can't imagine taking a little of each of the jars in my cellar and mixing it into one blend.
I bought a pound of the "Best of the Rest" blend from pipesandcigars.com and I was pleasantly surprised! It was sweet, spicy, and nutty all at the same time, it wasn't an instant favorite but it was worth the $12 I spent on it!
Thanks for the info bubba. I will have to check it out.
I will be going to the B&M after I get out of class because my girlfriend just left me so I might as well go buy some new tobacco lol. Any suggestions on what to get? I don't wanna spend more than $20 total.
If you've never tried it, McClelland 5100. If you like Virginias, you'll love it.
Look for a short redhead that likes pipe smokers.
It'll cost him more than $20... LOL.
But seriously, unclearthur, is that you who's been stalking my wife lately? Since she's 5'1" with red hair I'm beginning to wonder...
Back on topic... find something that strikes your fancy. Take a chance with something. I did with a few blends this year and they're now my "desert island" tobaccos.
Simon
I would definitely cop a couple or 3 two ounce samplings of something you haven't tried before.
Bump bumpity bump bump! bump bump !

Very nice Bubba you must have a crap load if tobacco now. Who makes private stock?
Ted's Pipe Shoppe in Tulsa, OK actually blends it in store... It is extremely good!
I usually stop every Thursday at my B&M (on payday) and buy another blend. This week it was another Esoteric tin of Pembroke, next week it will be their Margate tin.

Nice additions everyone!
Very nice pick ups guys.
Bubba
I hope you do a review on the Private Stock you purchased, after you have smoked enough to do one here.
You could call this a SGTAD:
250g Samuel Gawith 1792 Flake
250g " " Sqadron Leader
8 oz. " " Full Virgina Flake
4 oz. " " Navy Flake
2 oz. " " Skiff
I'm dissipointed that I didn't order Best Brown Flake.
Spilman Mixture from E Hoffman, Chicago.

ChuckW was kind enough to seen me some tins from the Richmond show.
Meridian
USS Mason
Tuskegee Airman
Montford Point Marine
Buffalo Soldier
Nice pickups guys.
Hey guys, glad to see people buying more tobacco and posting it on this thread!
Well I took a short trip (2.5 hour drive one way) to Tulsa to visit my dad, and I forgot to bring my pipe :-O Thankfully there was a smoke shop along the way and I stopped to see what they had. I was in luck because they had some MM hard woods for 4.00 and some OTC blends. I decided to go with something new to me and I got a 1.5oz pouch of Carter Hall, and a 1.5oz pouch of Velvet pipe tobacco.
To make a long story short, My father tried my pipe for the first time and ended up loving carter hall so much I left the pipe I just bought and the carter hall with him! He didn't smoke a single one of his cigars tonight, all he would smoke was the Carter Hall!
1 convert for me!
Super tale bubba! I like Carter Hall myself!
Nice pick ups everyone and nice convert with your father Bubba!
Just ordered
MacBaren 7 Seas Royal Blend 3.5oz Tin (3)
"Stand By Me" Bulk Pipe Tobacco Sampler (1)
Just ordered 250 g tins of both 1792 Flake and Squadron Leader from smokingpipes.com this afternoon. Just checked their website and the SL is already sold out.
Just checked out a couple sites. It looks like pretty much all the SG blends are selling out like mad.
I feel lucky. I called around and found a 1 lbs box of Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake yesterday and hope to receive it this week.
I acquired a half pound of Lane 1Q and a "proverbially dented" can of Rattray's Hal O' The Wynd. The latter going in my very limited cellar, for a rainy day. It's raining right now, but I already have an open can.
Why is it that every can of Hal O' the Wynd (I have ever seen) has a dent in it?
Is it some super secret technique for enhancing that excellent flavor?
So tonight I hit my local smoke shop, in hopes that they had some Mac Baren Vanilla Flake. No such luck. But I did get 2 oz. of the Mac Baren 7 Seas Regular and a pouch of Prince Albert (based on the recommendations of several members).
-Jason
Just got my order in today and got me a few grams of Altadis Blue Note and a 50g tin of McBarens Vanilla Flake.
Hit up another local cigar shop which carries some bulk PS & Mac Baren blends and snagged a tin of Gawith's Full Virginia Flake! I'm excited to try it since many members here speak so highly of it. Anyone have any tips?
-Jason
Great pickups guys.
Bought a few ounces of altadis 1M (1Q "match").... Doesn't come close, but it is okay in its own right!
This afternoon I picked up an ounce of Tinder Box's "Norse Gold", and after reading several posts by members who enjoy "English" blends I ordered a sampler of :
1. Light English
2. Medium English
3. Majestic English
4. African Queen
5. Byzantium
One of these days my wife's gonna kill me.
@ Lordnoble: My first tip is to buy more tins and sell them to me. I miss FVF so much. Second tip, pack loose and smoke very very slow. I find that when FVF is smoked too aggressively it smokes hot and dirty, but when smoked slowly it smokes rich, deep, cool, smooth and very sweet. Reminds me of a good jet black oily maduro cigar.
Thanks for the tips, Phil! To clarify: by loose do you mean take a flake, rub it out and gravity fill with a slight pack or something else? On the nore of the first tip, I'll go back and see if they have any tins left... If so I'll snag you whatever they have left. Thanks!
-Jason
Just received... 4oz of 1Q
8oz of Autumn Evening
8oz of Billy Budd
3 tins of Balkan Sasieni
I should be set for a while..
Well, TAD never seems to far off for me, so I stopped by my local smoke shop and was picking up some stuff for my Secret Santa, and saw that they had replenished their supply of Mac Baren's 7 Seas Gold. Bought 2 oz., got some tapered BJ Long's extra long cleaners and as I was just about to pay the dude, I spied they had gotten a shipment of SG tinned tobaccos. I grabbed the last tin of 1792 Flake that they had since I was extremely curious to see its effect on a nicotine lightweight like myself. Also, the fact that it contains tonquin is intriguing to me since it was a substitute for vanilla, which is a flavoring that I love in my favorite blends. So I'll let you guys know what I think of it.
-Jason
Once again, TAD hit me hard on Thanksgiving night, so I ordered from 4noggins.com (due to the glowing reviews on this site):
A tin of W.O. Larsen Signature (thanks to ohin3's review)
A tin of Mac Baren Honey and Chocolate (sounded too good to pass up... that, and it comes in a 100g tin for the price of a 50g tin)
A tin of Dan Tobacco Sweet Vanilla Honeydew
2 oz. of C&D Nutty Irishman (pouch/tin note is great!)
and the one blend I've been DYING to try: McClelland's 221b Series Honeydew
I'll be smoking and posting reviews of my recent purchases hopefully soon.
-Jason
*edit* forgot to mention that I received the package in today's mail.
I'll be smoking and posting reviews of my recent purchases hopefully soon.
Please do! There are two on your list there that I want to try sometime: the Mac Baren Honey and Chocolate (can't seem to find that around here) and the 221B Honeydew.
Simon
Simon,
It'll probably be tomorrow night before I can begin trying my new blends. I have to get some warmer clothes to go light up now...
-Jason
I feel your pain. My smoking has dropped off noticeably now that my only option is the garage under the heater. Come on summer 2011!
Simon
Below is what I ordered from smokingpipes.com on Nov. 17 and received on Nov. 19 (shipping was FREE)!!!
Also, they were very kind and sent a small pouch sample of the three 7 Seas blends.
Mac Baren
HH Matured Virginia
Mixture: Scottish Blend
Navy Flake
Plumcake
Mixture: Scottish Blend
Solent Mixture
Virginia #1
Virginia Flake
G.L. Pease
Caravan
W.O. Larsen

Over the course of the last six days I've ordered well over a dozen bulk and tinned tobaccos. I had to go pick up two dozen new Mason jars yesterday and clean off a shelf in the man-cave closet for storage.
Come on Big Brown Sleigh!!
1 tin McClelland Scottish Woods
1 tin Esoteric Margate
Some great pick ups guys.
