I just received 4 tins of Caminetto Lombardo! They may be the last 4 tins in the country since they were discontinued. Apparently I'm the only one who likes it.

Lately, I've been smoking the new McClelland club blends and the old Ashton blends that are now back in production. So far I've smoked Wilderness, Legends, Nocturne, Cyprian Star and Black Parrot. They are all good, but the winner for me, so far is the Black Parrot. The half kilo, for the cellar arrives tomorrow. This blend is the rocking chair on the shores of the sea of complexity, for me. There are more tins I've yet to open, but these will get smoked before I open more.
A couple of these are ones I herd of around here I wanted to give a shot. I went on a bit of an aromatic spree since right now all I have are English and Scottish blends. Plus I'm just plain running out of tobacco.
1 tin G.L. Pease Union Square
1 tin McCelland Mellow Mack
4oz Peter Stokkebye Highland Whiskey(thought I try after good reviews here)
4oz Hearth and Home Anniversary Kake
4oz G&H Bob's Chocolate Flake
4oz G&H Rum Flake
2oz McCelland #700 Baklava
Nice!
I "splurged" yesterday on a single tin of Solani Virginia Flake 633. I contemplated getting a 100g tin of Erinmore Flake, but I chickened out. It ended well, though, the Solani's a winner! Just need to figure out how to pack it. I'll get that Erinmore someday...

I prefer the fold and stuff method on smaller bowl pipes, but a lot of people just rub out the flake like a ribbon or thicker and then pack it in.
2 tins of MC Samovar.
It smells delightful. I think I'm gonna turn out to be a big fan of orientals and light balkans.
If you like Orientals. One of the best I have ever smoked is P.S. English Oriental Supreme.
Thanks for the heads up on that dunendain
@ Classicgeek: I love 633 and smoke it in every state from whole to fully rubbed. Here is a favourite packing method: Use an average to small bowled pipe. slice the flake down to a size that is about 3/4 the height of your chosen tobacco chamber. Now fold that flake lenght wise so that it is basically 2 flake thick strip with an over all height that is about 3/4 the height of your tobacco chamber. Now roll that strip up like a sleeping bag till the roll is slightly less than the diameter of your tobacco chamber. Stuff this rolled plug into your pipe, top off with some old dry tobacco dust to encourage ignition, char, sit back, relax, and get ready for an hour or longer smoke. I hope the photo link works. Not the highest quality but you get the picture.
Cheers.

Please see next post for picture of packing method...on the bright side, I now know how to post pictures he he he.
@ohin3
Phil, that's a great tip. I would never have thought to fold-roll-and-stuff a flake. I'm gonna try it ASAP. You should add this post as a comment to Bob Tate's (python) excellent tutorial on the various Flake Preparation Techniques.
Thanks for the insights on packing the flake, ohin3! I'll see if this will work.
My local tobacconist has a good selection of Solani blends, so I imagine I will try most of them in time.

I haven't smoked many of their blends, but the ones I have were all top notch. 633 is one of my desert island smokes. The Vas are bright and sweet and the perique is just the right amount of spice. I haven't smoked Esoterica's Dorchester in a while, but that will change as soon as my Smokingpipes package arrives. It is surely in contention for the va/per desert island tobacco spot. If 633 gets your attention, try Dorchester.
Crap...now I'm obsessing over memories of what Dorchester tastes like. It's Vas are top notch for sure, but their dose of perique is a bit more attention getting than 633. After smoking about a third of the bowl you are left with a mouth wateringly soft sweet Va flavour in your mouth, nose, hair, eyes...it pretty much swallows your entire head. Then just when you think the smoke is going to be pleasant but one dimensional, as if on a fuse, the perique goes off ! ! ! The smoke gets more and more spicy as it goes on. The kind of spicey that when you blow an entire mouth full of smoke through your nose, it makes your eyes water for a few seconds. Just about the time you are ready to say the spice is too over the top and that you need to put the pipe down...it is just starting to near it's end. It never heats up and it never seems to bite me, but I smoke my Vas slowly. When I walk away from a bowl of Dorchester I feel like I was just in a fight, but in a good way ha ha ha. My eyes are all bleary and watery and the nicotine has me a bit buzzy, but that warm toasty, sugary Va flavour is still wrapped firmly around my senses. Good god I can't wait for that package.
LOL.
You should write ad copy. Now I'm counting the time until tonight when I can have my pipe.
I'm glad there is a B&M in relatively close proximity...
So... when I get that craving, I can go and buy it.
My last example.... Escudo Navy De Luxe.
2oz of Lane 1Q and 2oz mix of 1.5oz an aromatic nutty tobacco and .5 oz of BCA mixed. Smokes very nice.
@pstlpkr: I love love LOVE Escudo. It is, I admit, hard to make behave, but if you smoke it slowly it is one of the most satisfying rich deep va smokes out there. Like Sweet potato pie with black pepper on top.
I ordered 8 0z. of Luxury Bullseye Flake, now I am kicking myself for not getting at least a pound.
Just picked up 12 tins of McCelland's 221 Baker Street Black Shag. Nine tins are 12 years old and three are 8 years old. Given Tobacco Review's reviews, It will be interesting to see if age improved it.
Where did you find the old tins of the Pease blends? PM me haha.
3 tins of Caminetto Lombardo
1 tin of CAO Moontrance
1 tin of CAO Bella Vanilla
I just ordered a box each of Luxury Bullseye flake and Luxury Twist flake. If they are anywhere as tasty as the Navy flake I will be in pipe heaven!
Start getting fitted for your wings Art.
I have a McCranies store that I can walk to. I bought some Petersons Sunset Breeze and some of their bulk tobacco called Quail Run.
I'm going to go there once a week and buy another blend. Help them keep their doors open and rent paid.
and it's my turn to ask the newbie stupid question of the week...what does B&M stand for?

Brick and Morter . Sunset Breeze is good stuff . I have a tin of that and Sweet Killarney by my chair . My PS Proper English will be here this week along with some 3noggins .
You guys are creating a monster here...I went in a grocery store today and ended up at the Customer Service Center and that is where the tobacco products are stored...so I ended up buying a pouch of Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic and I went in for a bag of potato chips.
After getting back into pipe smoking, reading reviews, getting caught up in the excitement of getting new tobaccos, this site, and a few dollars squirreled away for just the right time, I decided to order a few tins. These are in order of invoice:
G.L. Pease Barbary Coast
McClelland Blackwood Flake
Peterson University Flake
Robert McConnell Scottish Cake
Balkan Sasieni
G.L. Pease Key Largo
G.L. Pease Union Square
Cornell & Diehl Tuskegee Airman
Dan Tobacco Old Ironsides
Dan Tobacco Midnight Ride
Presbyterian Mixture
MacBaren Vanilla Cream Flake
Even though I've received all these treasured tins, the sad thing is, it will be months before I get to enjoy smoking any of them!
Wow, what a great variety. Be gentle and smoke slow on that MacBaren Vanilla, it has a history of biting like a Pit Viper, a Black Momba, a Kentucky Rattlesnake, West Virginia Cottonmouth, etc.
hobie, thanks for the heads up on the Vanilla Cream Snake ... wait that doesn't sound right. My SI Swimsuit issue is around here somewhere.
Here I am in San Diego, far from my native Canada. I found a local shop, Captain Hunt Tobacconists and browsed through their selection. At first I was dissappointed, because I wanted to find something that I couldn't get back home. They stocked a lot of McClelland blends. But I persevered and found a tin of HH Vintage Syrian and a sample pouch of PS Black Currant Cavendish. I can't get either back home, so I'm thrilled and can't wait to get home and give them a try.
Simon
Gawith Skiff and Chocolate Flake

Should be some outstanding aromatics in there. If I can't find one to call my favorite in that line-up then there's no hope for me. Also anticipating taking 50% of one of those and mixing it with 50% 1Q....gotta be a winner somewhere.
Nice pick ups everyone!

Hobie you should try the Nording sampler next time .The pointer smells like candy corn and cracker jacks .
My local Tinderbox has all the Nording tins sitting out with the lids ready to be popped open for a quick smell, (which I did while I was there ). Since I like butterscotch so well, he said I would like the Retriever the best.
Darn, went out at lunch and stopped by the JR Cigar outlet and ended up buying some Lane HS3
Lane RLP-6
Lane MV-1000
I shouldn't be accumulating this much stash so soon, the nicotine isn't addictive at all, it's the consumerism.
Got
Peter Stokkebye English Luxury
Peter Stokkebye B&B
Nice pick ups everyone!

At the Columbus pipe show today. Some guy had them on his table for $5 each so I bought them all.
You lucky dog! I have yet to get lucky on a pipe or pipe tobacco purchase but we shall see. I keep my fingers crossed and my eyes on the look out haha.
Okay I found a little smoke shop that had some DSB (drug store brands) for really cheap.

the half and half and the PA were $2 each and the captain black was $5!
Nice pick ups everyone!

Yale Mixture
Pirate Kake
Byzantium
Habana Daydreams
Smokingpipes.com has them packaged in an 8 pack along with 2 other 8 packs of different types of tobacco. Can't wait to give them a try.
When I got home from work I found an email from Mark at SP confirming an order for 2 bags of Penzance. On one of my last few orders I had told him to reserve a couple for me. When I called to confirm payment I decided to add a box of PS Bull's Eye to get the order up over $95 and get free shipping (it would have cost $7.39 otherwise). Got the LAST bag.
Lisa said the Penzance had sold out in less than 3 hours. She couldn't confirm anything about a Gawith shipment but said that the Dunhill is on it's way and should be in shortly.
Tonight just picked up:
a 50g tin of Villiger 1888 Mid Day
2 oz. of PS Bullseye Flake
1 oz. of PS Twist Flake.
I've never had Twist Flake before so it should be interesting.
-Jason
So should I buy up any tins of Penzance I can find?
hobie1dog,
I don't think Penzance is out-of-production, I think it is just highly sought after and it 'disappears' from online stores and store shelves quickly because production of it is slow. That said, if you can get a tin or two of it, it can't hurt. You could easily trade it or hold on to it for when it is hard-to-find again and there is a demand for it.
-Jason
Customer Service at IRC, SP and P&C have told me the same thing, their current shipments of Penzance are at nearly the same level they were a year or two ago. The problem is that, because of the recent shortage, as soon as it's posted to their website they're flooded with orders and it usually sells out in a few hours. As soon as customers are satisfied that supplies will continue to arrive things should slack off a lot.
I expect the same thing to happen when the first shipments of Dunhill and Samuel Gawith arrive, they'll be gone in hours.
I've added to my modest stash of tins, the following (copied and pasted from order confirmation):
Samuel Gawith GROUSEMOOR 50g
Solani 656 AGED BURLEY FLAKE
Cornell & Diehl BURLEY FLAKE.
I have so many opened tins now that I've not even touch my last order and have no idea when I'll get to these but I really want to try the Grousemoor.
From our friends at Smoking Pipes:
2oz. G&H Rum
2 oz. G&H Sweet Cherry
2 oz. G&H Coconut
16 oz. Black Irish Twist (sliced)
The recent order has been for 6 tins of 2010 McClelland Anniversary.
I'm a big fan of the '02 and '05 issues and anticipate enjoying this
one as well. For me, this is certainly among the best blends McClelland's
has produced. I wouldn't mind if it became a yearly tradition, like
Christmas Cheer... http://www.pipeshowonline.net/McClelland_Anniversary.php
Hey Fred,
I would be very interested in your appraisal/review of the 2010 McClelland Anniversary when you try it.
Sorry for the second post, but Collindow got me thinking about fruit flavored blends.
Something I love and cannot locate anywhere is a good Apple blend.
I used to buy Wessex Brigade Apple as regular as clock-work. It bit like a junk yard dog, and ghosted a pipe with the first draw, but man did taste good.
If I was to dedicate a pipe to a blend it would be Wessex Brigade Apple. I used to smoke it in my American Calabash and probably will again... if I could only locate some.
