I hear a lot about cigarettes containing synthetic chemicals used to make them more addictive--including other dangerous stuff. Is this the same with pipe tobacco or does pipe tobacco contain less/none?

Many chemicals added to ciggs is to keep them burning. One of the rituals of pipe smoking is relighting. Therefore no added chemicals are needed. The only additions are of the casing/flavorings to aromatic tobaccos, and those in most cases are natural/harmless!

That's right, Cosmic. I have it on good authority that Captain Black is dried, cut, and pouched with no processing or additives.

@jitterbugdude- I have a feeling there is a (chemical) reason PA and CA burn so easily with so few re-lights...
