After much testing - Jack Peterson has released a new crop of blends that I have personally tried - they are all wonderful. My favorites are Freedom Blend (may not be listed - but available - English Blend with Deertongue casing - Yowsa!), White Tail Aromatic, and Sterling Balkan. Check them out Amigos.

I have tried the Royal London Dock which is very close to the original.
Very tasty with a wonderful room note/
(Helga wants me to smoke more of it.)

I got a free sample of american patriot from him and it was amazing as well. Super smooth with flavors I couldn't articulate. I think I remember someone on these forums saying that it was an attempt at emulating Penzance? I heard it's close but still different. I havn't had Penzance yet but hopefully that will change.

    Good stuff indeed!

I've had the pleasure of doing some photo work for Jack in return for some baccy samples and I really enjoyed these new blends !!!

His 1776 Klompen Kloggen blend has been at the top of my rotation for months now !!!

Freedom blend is one of my hot smokes right now. I usually smoke a bowl a day or every other day. I ordered while back and have let it age for a bit. The overall taste just explodes in my pipe with the right combination of English with Deertongue. For those of you folks who haven't tried deertongue - it tastes like vanilla with a bit of herbal taste to it. Freedom blend has a deertongue casing - so you won't see any little green flecks in it.Be forwarned I find Freedom blend to be very, very addictive.

Currently I am on bit of a deertongue kick. H&H Old Tartan has a deertongue analog in it - very nice; House of Calabash is offering Mrs. Calabash which has deertongue natural in it. Also 4 Noggins has a blend called Mojo which also has deertongue natural in it. When I say natural - you can see the green specks in it.

Freedom blend has the closest "deertongue" taste in it's casing. I was also informed that by Russ Oullette that Capitol Stairs used to have deertongue in it - like Old Tartan but they switched to a German deertongue analog/casing - for some regulatory reasons.

Now please don't misquote me - but I think he (Jack Peterson) is offering a discount on his NEWEST RELEASE BLENDS - I don't know if this applicable to everyone or folks who have purchased from him before and are on his email list - but it's worth checking out if you haven't done so already. i would suggest you get on his email list to receive his updates as he often runs special discounts on selected blends. I was able to pick up 1776 Tavern and Old Dominion - 7 ounce ounce bags at 20% off the regular price during these sales.

Happy New Year Clano: Hey Doc, sounds to me like you are now the "Left Coast" sales rep for Sterlings. Are you still doing massages or have you given up on the day job?

I added some White Tail Aromatic to my order of Double Eagle to give it a try. I'll let you know how it is. So far, I regularly smoke the DE, and I love the 1776 Tavern Blend and Old Dominion.

Hey MJ - no I haven't given up on doing Massage for a living - going on my 16th year. As far as West Coast repping for Sterling - nope - just a fan and an official Guinnea Pig for trying out new blends of Jacks before he releases them to the public. I get to try them and then offer my feedback. The job isn't hard and it certainly has it's advantages - I have only had one blend out of the many I have tried which I thought needed to be reworked - 99% of Jack's new blends are pretty much home runs to me.

Now to the rest of you guys - Jack has updated his website to include Freedom blend:

    http://www.sterlingtobaccoco.com/newest.html

I only wish he had noted the deertongue casing which is a major plus in this blend and adds to the allurement. It sets it apart from other English blends on the market. Sometimes Jack is mum about what he uses for casings in his blends - however - take it for me - there is a deertongue casing in it.

For all you Corn Cob smokers out there Freedom in a cob is a match in heaven - the marriage of the two elevates the casing and makes for a real super yummy smoke.

Amen to that. And for me, that remaining 1% isn't because the blend is bad, just isn't for my palate.

They were coming in bags and 7oz and 14oz plastic tubs, my last order was 14oz of the Klompen Kloggen and arrived yesterday in a 14oz bag (think I saw he's switching over to reduce some of the shipping costs?!?).

There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason why sometimes blends get tubs or bags. Personally, I don't like the tubs - I always request bags.

Got my white tail aromatic today. Room note and pouch note is caramel. Tried it in 5 different pipes, the best being in the large bowl of a Peterson Plato. In the big bowl, it's starts off really mild, without any discernible flavor. About midway, I could pick up some coffee or nut flavors, and it cooled a bit and was light and smooth for the remainder of the pipe. The better half liked the caramel scent. In all the other pipes: Parker group 2, Dr. G Royalton, LePeltier Clay, and Peterson System XL315, I got a lot of tongue bite initially, and no real flavor until about halfway in the System pipe. No flavor at all in the smaller bowls. This stuff burns pretty quickly too, so the big bowl was still only about 40 minutes total burn. I liked it I the Plato and the system pipe, but not so much in the other three. So, I get the most out of this tobacco using a larger bowled pipe, and would recommend the same for others that may wish to try it.
Oh, and I tried it in the Parker first, then the LePeltier, Royalton, Plato, and finally the System, with about 2 to 4 hours smokeless in between.
