I've had Tavern, and want to try American Patriot, but don't have a clue about the others you mentioned.

I've only tried American Patriot. Still working through the sample I got before I order some. Keep forgetting I have it and should smoke it soon. Quite a nice blend.

Oh, where to start, I have a bunch of Jack's blends and love 'em all.

The Klompen Kloggen is my favorite by far.
I have all the new White Tail blends, well, I can't do Lat so that one was donated.
    The 5 Star Blend,
My Buddy (which is light enough in the lat dept that if I'm careful, I can smoke it occassionally)
    Hunnicut
    Double Eagle
    Tahiti Blend
    Tom and Jerry
    Southern Host
    Piper's Choice
    Sweet Briar
    Country Store Aro
    Boston Whaler Packet

I think I got 'em all. Each has it's place in my rotation, but again, Klompen Kloggen is my every day, multiple times a day smoke.

I got a sample of the double eagle. I liked it. Cube cut burley. Considering I'm not a big Lat fan, I liked it alright. It's in my short list to order again.

I think you will like what you got. My mind must be elsewhere, don't know why I didn't say this in my first post.

The tannin's that are in the Latakia trigger migraines, so most lat blends are out for me. But it seems like the My Buddy is very light in Lat - I can smell it, but it is not over powering.

As Mick said, the Double Eagle is a cube cut Burley that burns slow and definitely a "light" aro in that I was still able to detect the nice burley flavor.

The Sweet Briar - I haven't been able to nail down the exact flavor notes coming through, it's definitely sweet and and can help settle any sweet tooth you may have, but yet I did not find it overly sweet.

Clanobuckin is probably the foremost Sterling expert here, think he's tried a lot more of the Sterling/1776 blend that I, but I think we are both in agreement, you almost can't go wrong ordering from Jack.

I regularly smoke Double Eagle, and I have some White Tailed Aromatic which smells of caramel. I also have some of his Old Dominion, which is a straight virginia with black cherry notes. I am out of his 1776 Tavern blend, another one of my favorites.

Sweet Briar is great! I believe it is a white, flaked burley. Not very moist and will burn all the way down to bowl to a very fine ash. It's aromatic, but not remotely cloying and will not coat the tongue with a nasty aftertaste.

Hi - here is my take on the following blends from Jack:

Sterling Double Eagle - I really like this blend and can only compare it to an after dinner cordial. My reasoning is due to the extremely cool smoke this mild aromatic gives upon smoking. The taste is nothing like I have ever experienced in 20 years of pipe collecting and smoking. It is something - completely different - in taste. And different isn't necessarly a bad thing as is the case of "Double Eagle."

The pouch smell is a vanilla. While the taste has the following notes: Vanilla, pine, forest, and maple. A nuttiness (probably from the cubed burly) makes an appearance towards the end of the bowl - about 3/4 the way down. You can definitely taste the burly tobacco - so this blend lives up to its description of 'light aromatic.'

The coolness of the taste is a perfect tobacco to smoke after a heavy meal or if you have eaten spicy foods. Although I have smoked this blend on an empty stomach with satisfying results too.

In addition, there is no pipe funk left in the bowl or tongue bite while smoking which makes one want to pack his or her pipe again - that is - when the siren calls for this kind of smoke.

Sterling My Buddy - What can I say - I love this blend. It reminds me a lot of Bald Headed Teacher by Rich Gottlieb of 4 Noggins - only a little more aromatic.
While retaining an English Blend complexity - the subtlety of the Latakia is wonderful. Plus you get a crossover taste with a casing that defies description. There is also a tiny bit of cigar leaf in it for a hint of spice.

I enjoy this tobacco when I want an undemanding and soothing blend to end a day of hard work at the office.

Don't get me wrong - there is nothing 'simple' about this blend - it is complex, tasty and has many nuances which reveal themselves as one makes his way through the bowl.

Like many of Jack Peterson's blends the taste is so unique that it often defies description - other than - it tastes absolutely frickin great!

Smokes well in any pipe. Leaves no pipe funk or ugly Godzilla like halitosis in the mouth and burns to a fine white ash.

My Buddy is a friend indeed. Highly recommended.

Sterling Sweet Briar - This is a blend that I find to be very enjoyable. A mild aromatic that has a warm nut, vanilla and spice flavoring. It reminds me of the cordial - Frangelico. In fact, when I first opened the pouch - I thought this blend might be flavored with that liquor - however, since no flavorings are mentioned in the description - your guess is as good as mine.
It smokes smooth and creamy . There is absolutely no tongue bite - although if you puffed it to quickly - you might get a slight tongue and palate burn. It reminds me of an older brother of "Otter Creek" a superb aromatic blend - from 4 Noggins (blended by Richard Gottlieb.

This is the kind of tobacco I want to smoke on a overcast or rainy day - when I want that comforting kind of smoke to go with a rich and dark roasted cup of coffee.

Like all the blends I have tried from Sterling and 1776 Tobacco Co. - the tobbacco burns to a white ash which leaves very little gunk left in the pipe making the pipe easy to clean.

Hope these thoughts help - but I have to say that Jack makes some of the best boutique blends on the market. They are all complex and delicious.

I have only tried 2 Sterling Blends.

1776 Tankard, which is a nice apricot flavored aro, mild and enjoyable.
Bargain Blend, for the price it is a very nice smoke, nothing fantastic but a nice smoke.

I've JUST this minute received 2 samples from Jack: Bargain Blend, and 1776 V and P -- I've yet to try either but I'm sniffing the packets and drooling! And many thanks to Jack and Sterling Tobacco for their generosity in supplying samples -- to Canada with no postage charge, yet!! Thanks, Jack!

    Cheers, Dallas

I have tried Royal London Dock, Sterling Maple Leaf, and Balkin Sterling, Balkin Sterling is my favorite, nice Latakia taste without being overpowering. A good balkan style tobacco (yes I spelled it right, he calls it Balkin). Maple leaf, I am letting sit for a few months, I find it did not have much maple flavor but a nice smoke. I am still undecided on Royal London Dock, nice tobacco, no bite but not a lot of flavor. Was quite dry when I received it, added some distilled water and am letting it sit for a few months. Next up will be 1776 Grenadier his Medium English. Yes, I like English and Balkan style Tobacco. The Bargain Blend he sent as a sampler was quite good. A Aromatic with a little kick, However it changes from week to week, your blend might be different. Overall I am quite pleased.
