Hi guys,
Very quick question, is it necessary to put any wax, polish or Oil on the stem's tenon to prevent oxidation occurring? If it did, would it be a problem taste wise when smoking the pipe or is oxidation only noticeable when your lips around a part of the stem that is oxidised. This question has been bugging me for a while
Any replys would be good.

Not really. Usually oxidation occurs from sunlight being on the stem. And since the tenon usually never sees sunlight, there's no need to oil it. I use vegetable oils on my stems and it hasn't ever affected the taste! Happy puffing!

Go down to your local hardware store and buy beeswax block

Let it come to warm room temperature and rub a line around the tenon. This will condition both the tenon and the briar that surrounds it. It will also cure both a mildly loose tenon or a tight one. Magic stuff. No pipe smoker should be without it!
