Howdy, The stem on my pipe is getting real, real, ugly. Curious if I should try to repair/polish or should just try to find a new stem.

I hope that link works to see what I'm working with here. The photo is stored on my amazon cloud.
Also, if you have any idea what type of pipe this is that would be super helpful.
Thanks for whatever you can offer!

I'm not a restoration guy, but I've been reading and viewing Forums for a while and seen stems raised from the dead. I mean pipes from the flea market or ebay with stems that are chewed, oxidized to revolting shades of gray and green, weird shifting colors that look like pipe stem camouflage. Those are the before pictures. After elbow grease is applied -- careful fine grade sanding and polishing, these stems look way/far better than anything you can find brand new on the pipe racks at even the highbrow pipe shops. I mean they just gleam. They sparkle highlights all over the room. Eight dollar pipes off ebay look like those $600 pipes sold with videos online being handled by the person in white gloves. In short, I think you can spiff up that stem yourself.
