From last week. Both unrestored, and fetching some decent prices.

The Specimen Straight Grain I can see, sort of. The Buckingham, no way. It's also post-war, not pre-war.

That's a crazy price for the Buckingham. That stem is SERIOUSLY oxidized. It looks to be in excellent condition otherwise. Must be because it's a Pre_War. But still high.
I'd guess two guys had the same hole in their collection.
10-4 on the oxidation of that Sasieni. A saddle stem that's that badly oxidized is quite a different animal than a taper stem. It's going to be detectably smaller in diameter than the shank when back to black, resulting in this situation (not my work, btw):
q7CnY5X.jpg

And reducing the end of the shank to achieve level---and then retexturing and re-staining it, of course---will be a MAJOR piece of work affecting almost the entire length of the shank. Not a reasonable option, actually. (With a taper stem, the shank only needs to be touched for a millimeter or three. Indeed, "angling" the wood to the stem by hand is how Dunhill has done it since day one for their Shells and Tanshells.)
In short, ouch.

Not to bee too much of a weenie, but the 19S is the Pembroke shape, which is a little smaller than the 55, the Buckingham. I really like the Pembroke, have a few 19's "seconds", they are all excellent smokers.

Ooops, you're correct! Thought I was looking at a fishtail logo. Need to get my eyesight checked. Post 1950 to boot. Really a crazy price.
I think the most interesting thing about this pipe is the size and pattern of the dots. They are the smaller, elongated diamond seen on pre-war, and some early post-war pipes. Even without the patent number, I would be curious if this pipe had a stinger.

You could of bought 2 rustic one dots with fishtail last week for the same price...I think shinypipes got them cause I see they have 2 for sale..what are the odds.

Here's one of those "What's wrong with this picture?" sales...

Kind of sad, because it's a very cool, and not often seen shape,

I'm gonna guess the pipe got dropped or stepped on, and instead of the tenon snapping off the mortise popped/exploded (it's semi-common with routed rustication finishes... those grooves are almost like scratching glass), and then a new mortise was drilled in what was left of the shank.
Sad to see. Nice shape, rare piece.

Yikes, that is sad.
Good God Almighty,

it is quite sad.
What the odd dots,

notice on the last pic how one of them has fallen out?

This auction was pretty interesting,

thought maybe it'd fly under the radar,

but shooda know'd better,

$17.00 up until the last minute then skyrocketed.
It's very cherry and quite crisp...

Yup. The difference can be seen quite clearly from the catalog image. Sasieni really made some nice delicate, graceful shapes during the pre-war period...
