If you look at pipestuds completed auctions for today, (Can't link, I'm on my phone volunteering for son's band marching in Hazel Dell parade), you will see a Pre-trans Barling bulldog worthy of any collector.

I was winning bid until 2 seconds at... $2o5. I know it's foolish to hope, but you know... I hoped. Then it blew up to $516. I was like, daaaaamn! Lol. So high I don't even feel bad about losing. But the dashed glimmer of hope have me a twinge, however unrealistic. After all, hope is often unrealistic.

I saw one similar at the Chicago show last year that had an $800 price tag on it. It may be a deal at $500? I know the feeling well when you think you may steal one and at the last second the price goes out the roof. Que sera, sera.

Thanks for the pic, Dave. That's the one. I'm sure it was a deal, maybe? I don't know enough about Barlings to say, and so I'd never bid 500 in ignorance. And pipe prices are on the rise as well, at least on ebay, which further clouds the issue for me.

Sure was a beautiful pipe, though.

After all, hope is often unrealistic.

Repeat this to yourself every election year.
