Do you have to call the pre-order in? Checking their website and it just says temporarily out of stock

Thank you. Might go for one tin just to try it. That's pretty steep.

I think you only see the pre-order option on the desktop version of their webpage. Only my Android phone, I was able to select "Desktop Site" from the option menu and then I could see the button.

Premal orders a certain quantity from Germain. I imagine the pre-order option closes when that quantity is sold. I’m a big fan of these blends.

As Craig noted, that's how you order.

Caveat: Craig posted a screen shot of "Our Best Blend", but that one is not available for pre-order. Just FYI.

Just type "pre-order" in their search to bring them all up at once.

Similarly to S.P. & P&C, you can load up your cart & track the remaining "inventory", or open slots.
For example, I can max out my cart at 696 pre-orders for In -B -Tween. Although I have seen those go to zero, and then more slots were added during the last time they released some blends.

Ah, I see better now. Sorry folks, I kind of mislead you. As Npod pointed out, in my screenshot, the section on the left wasn't the blend that was being display. Sorry about that. It's incredibly tiny in desktop mode on my Google Pixel. I assumed it was the same blend.

On closer inspection, it turns out that the pre-sale items are shown in the "Related Products" section below. On Android, it showed only the leftmost item, but if you swipe to the left, it shows the next item. Keep swiping until you find the tobacco you're looking for. On my iPad, it displayed much like it did on my giant iMac, which is show here.

Seeing Krumble Kake again is like (not only) finding a unicorn, but finding a Zombicorn actually eating cake.

Isn't Krumble Kake supposed to be pretty similar to Penzance?

Yes, that is my understanding, but I haven't tried it. I don't think we will see it again.

Premal emailed me when they released this round and I ordered a few tins, (I love Exotique, but I am pretty stocked) I wish they had some of Our Best Blend.

Pipestud describes IN-B-Tween as "Penzance in shag cut form" on TobaccoReviews. I've never had a SH blend. Are they really worth the tin price plus shipping?

That depends on your taste and how much you want to spend personally. I love Exotique, it may be in the top three blends for me.
I have heard that Cognac is basically Pembroke, I can't remember the others, but I believe Our Best Blend was supposed to be the same recipe as original Balkan Sobriene relabeled, Margate is very close to Exotique. What I am getting at is, if you can't find the esoterica blends these may be a way to try something very close. IMO it is worth a little extra for some really good blends.

The presale items are the ones I listed in the 1st post.

Premal said on here in the last year or 2 (I believe) that he is still trying to get krumble made.

There is a lot of mis-information about the relationship between esoterica and smokers haven. To the best of my knowledge this is what happened.

Penzance was modeled after our Krumble Kake in the late 1980's but there is a difference in the recipie. Here is what actually happened:

Back in the 1940's the founder of Smokers' Haven, Joe Zieve, developed Krumble Kake and contracted with Sobranie to make the blend and get the equipment made to make it. In the late 1970's when Sobranie closed the factory, some of the equipment and recipies were transferred over the Germain. Germain continued to product the blends until about 1984/85. The second owner of Smokers' Haven ceased purchasing from Germain at this time. In 1988 after my father took over Smokers' Haven, Germain approached him to re-establish business, but at the time my father refused. He then connected with an old Smokers' Haven customer, Steve Richman from Piedmont Tobacconist to do business with. Steve wanted the SH blends replicated, but luckily for SH Germain only made 3 of the blends close and not exact. Margate was modeled after OBB, Pembroke was modeled after Cognac, and Penzance was modeled after Krumble Kake. The Esotericas were born and then shortly sold to Butera. In 2003 I reconnected with Germain and asked him and Mike Butera if they would work with me to bring the blends back. They agreed.

I asked Greg Pease about the origins of the Esoterica blends, as he was one of the testers for Steve Richman, and he remembered being given two very similar Germain's blends to try from their catalog. One of them, which he thought to be Krumble Kake, had less Latakia in it, and Richman decided to go with the heavier one for Penzance.

Has anyone who preordered tins this time around received their order yet? The expected date of shipping was after 11/20/2018. I placed an order, but it is still "awaiting fulfillment". Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I emailed them the beginning of last week and the response was that it should go out that week. However, nothing yet, and still shows "Awaiting Fulfillment".

    Nada, as in nothing yet.

I emailed him 12/12 and he said he was behind and hoping to get them out in the next day or so. I still haven’t seen or heard anything since.

emailed late last week, he's working hard to get the orders shipped, it's never a fast process, but he's always been reliable. I imagine he's gotten swamped given that it probably all got ordered in a very short time.

What a coincidence, I just received an email saying my order has shipped (guessing the label was created and will ship tomorrow).

Great news! Fortunate to live only a couple hours away, should get it soon!

Thanks for your responses. I know this tends to happen from other threads I have read about SH preorders, so I wasn't too worried. I was just anxious, I guess. This is my first time ordering tins from SH and I was happy to catch the opportunity for once! I understand Premal is the only one handling the orders and he needs time to fill them. I'm glad to hear that the orders are going out. Enjoy, gentlemen!

Exotique was compared to Esoterica Margate earlier in this thread. If that's even remotely true I'm going to be super happy. Absolutely love Margate but could only get one tin a couple of weeks ago. Trying really hard not to burn through it too fast but I can't stay away from it. Fingers crossed!
