I asked a local tobacconist what tobacco he recommends. He looked through his stock and said "well, not sliced brown." I asked why and he said it is entirely too strong. I was excited about this and quickly bought some. I am highly pleased and have been going a lot lighter on the dip because of this tobacco, which is also a fine smoke. Anyone else have any experience with "sliced brown"?
It is a rope tobacco that is sliced.

Do you know who manufactures it?
Sounds like it could be Gawith & Hoggarth, no?
Maybe either sliced Brown Twist or Brown Irish X.
Phage, you might want to try chewing some of it, if it is one of the sliced twists I mentioned, they're dual use. (Though I'd rather spend the money on Mammoth Cave to chew and just smoke the G&H, since that'd be one expensive chew!)

I have had a Cavendish Slice from my local tobacconist.

I have always enjoyed it. Burns a little hot though.

It is almost a yellowish gold color with some medium to dark brown color and layered in its consistency. It took a good deal of preparation prior to packing my bowl.

I really enjoy the black ropes from both houses. The sample of brown I have is on the bland side flavorwise but, ooh the nicotine hit.
