I've noticed a "sizzling" sound coming from any tobacco smoked in all of my pipes about halfway through the bowl. Is it moister? Am I smoking too hot?

Yes, the sizzling sound you hear is condensation from moist tobacco.
As, that moisture is converted to steam, you could experience some tongue bite from that steam.
The best way to cure that is to slow down and make your puffs a bit more shallow.

Thanks guys. I ran a pipe cleaner through and that solved the problem immediately. And I was smoking University Flake that was as dry as can be. I'm a cig smoker so I puff long and hard. I enjoy it that way though so I'm glad the cleaners worked.
