Just a shout out to one of my favorite musicians. Believe it or not, I'm not much of a country music fan, especially not new country, but Merle was someone my grandfather and I shared an interest in. Anyways... here's one of my favorites to jam along with on my banjo.

I hope this gets imbedded.

It's a sad day today. RIP Merle. Kern River is my favorite album and my wife and I used to dance to the song Natural High in the living room. Thanks for the memories.

Just good, good music. Definitely one of the greats. I guess I can't say I'm the world's biggest country music fan either, but Merle was real hard to easily pigeonhole anyway.

RIP Merle.
He was one of the few authentic ones still around in a world of corporate-manufactured entertainers they try to call artists.
One of the last things he did (maybe the last) was this song with Don Henley.

I hadn't heard the news till I saw this. Many a night I listened to this on a CD I made during the Napster era, of various country biggies, while imbibing prodigious amounts of various whiskeys. It's better to listen to the original recording, than to watch this video. I still have the CD, I think I'll go find it tonight.

Always one of my favorite artists. I dragged my kid brother to see him back in '78, in Ft. Pierce, FL.

I think he was touring on the strength of "That's The Way Love Goes"..

He had 17 pieces in his band! He fiddled, played guitar, yodeled, and sang like only he could. Some of the guys in his band were in their 70's! Rockin it!

(I forgot) The kid brother emailed me the news today and thanked me for having taken him way back when.

R.I.P. Merle with us forever.

You don't have to be a fan of a certain genre to recognize quality within it. Country music for me has fond associations, although I don't listen to it, but Merle is quality in any genre. I am very sorry he's gone!
