If I remember correctly, the Silver Match company was from France. I wonder if Longchamp could have been involved? It looks like a really high quality piece for a promo pipe.

Good question. It is drilled properly and quite light @ 43g. Surely could be worse...

It would be interesting to see what the briar looks like beneath the leather, as it was typically applied to such pipes to cover sand pits and other defects which would have otherwise made it unsalable.
Is this not also the reason behind many—not all—sand blasts and rustics? I've long assumed so, but I'd love to hear from those with a lot more knowledge.
