It seems recently everyone has wanted to see meers.... I want to see natural briar and how it patinas. Please include what type of finish if any is applied to the bowl (carnuba, stain, noseoil, mineral oil, olive oil, etc) I tried searching but didn't find a cohesive thread of images just a few posts here and there. So lets see em!

This is a briar pipe I made back in the 1990's. I finished it with carnuba wax only -No stain. A briar pipe will turn darker over many years but the change is time consuming and subtle. Definately not as dramatic as meerschuam IMO.

Ooh ooh! I have an entry!
Almost exactly 2-years ago, in July 2010, I stayed overnight at Peter Heeschen's house in Denmark, and I made my own pipe in his workshop. We didn't have time to stain the pipes as they would need to dry overnight and then be buffed. In the morning we had to leave early to go see Mac Baren.
So this pipe's finish is just the natural wood polished on buffing wheels. Nothing has been added to the wood, not even a polishing wax.

After Photo Taken Just Now for this Thread

I have no idea how many bowls I've smoked in it over two years, but my best guess is 20 - 25.
The old thread telling the story of the making of the pipe is here:

I hate the focus on that photo, I really need to reshoot that pipe
Edit: Couldn't fix the pic. Sorry, L.

Both those Buraks are beautiful Dave! I'm in the process of attempting to strip the finish off my pipe (using Wild Turkey 101, better stripper than drink to me). Going natural so I'll be able to add to this thread soon. Bump for anyone else with a natural patina. :puffy:

Old thread giving it a bump and adding it to the Show Off thread. Mods if you could fix the title capitalization for me I would appreciate it.
