I have a pre-republic Peterson for which I have been unable to find info as to date ranges of its manufacture. It is stamped Peterson, Dublin 3. Has a broad silver band with no hallmarks stamped K&P. Anybody have any clue as to dates of manufacture? Thanks.

The font style of the P in Peterson may be able to help...

Sounds like an older pipe, from the pipedia Peterson's article, we have,
"I would suggest the period 1890 to 1915 is the true 'Patent era'. From my humble observations the Patent stamping on pipes from that time, were more apparent and attributable with some degree of accuracy. Peterson pipes made during the majority of this period had no "Country of Manufacture" (COM) stamped on them. However, later around 1916, they began stamping their pipes "Made in Ireland" in a block format."

See also a pipe marked as you describe (4th one down 3182) here,

Thanks dmcmtk. I'd seen that notation about the 3182. So, I saw it was noted as a pre-republic but unfortunately it didn't note any dates of manufacture. If I had Mark Irwin's contact info, I'd ask him about it. :D

Thanks paulfg. It appears from this blog entry with my pipe not noting a COM but simply Peterson's over Dublin 3, it is from pre-1920.

With no COM and no hallmark, it will be difficult to date with any precision. I tried to date your pipe using the vast amount of identification information available in Mark Irwin and Gary Malberg’s great book, “The Peterson Pipe”, but was unable to nail down anything definitive. There were pipes similarly marked made in 1992-2003. Mark Irwin is a delightful fellow. I would not hesitate to contact him, but he’ll want photos too, most likely.

Did contact Mark who graciously replied but by then I answered my own question. The nomenclature was so faded I'd missed seeing it, but went over it with high magnification and bright lights and finally made out "Free State."
