    From Pulver's website;

    I Quit.....

But, I'm sure, as with so many people, a cooler head
will prevail once I've had time to think it over. As I am
very generous with myself, I'm going to give it a full
month. If it appears, as strongly suspected, that the
pipes and customers will be missed, and the cards
line up right, the projected date of return is March 7th.
E-mail accesss should be available, so please feel
free to write. Phoning, always a poor choice for me,
is discouraged. Nobody is going to be here to
    answer.
    Marty

I hope this is just a vacation... Great resource for classic estates.

Rut Row shaggy... he always had (has ?) nice stuff. Most of it out of my league, but there's a BC out there I did like which was more within my range.... bummer

"The fact is, squire, the moment a man takes to a pipe, he becomes a philosopher. It's the poor man's friend; it calms the mind, soothes the temper, and makes a man patient under difficulties. It has made more good men, good husbands, kind masters, indulgent fathers, than any other blessed thing on this universal earth."

I met Marty when he first opened Sherlock's Haven in the Embarcadero Center in downtown San Francisco. Since then he has been a force to be reckoned with since then. Although Sherlock's no longer exists - I was aware that he was doing an online business. To be honest, I am surprised re his longevity (in a pleasant way) however, maybe he needs a well deserved break. With the growing competition of other sources - ie Ebay, etc. I am sure biz has taken a downturn due to competitive pricing etc. Hope he comes back - if that his heart's desire. He was a good friend to the pipe world.

Marty has a flair for the dramatic! I suspect he will return. I've purchased a couple of pipes from him and hope there will be more in the future.

Imagine it must have to do with simply taking a break from it all.
To bad for us but certainly couldn't think of a vendor more deserving of resting on his laurels.
Couple purchases myself, plenty e-mail communication with both.
Shame to have not been able to deal with him in person, hella nice fella!

    Snus, snuff and briar.
Not much more required in a day.
