In one of the houses that sits along side one of the main roads in good ol' Cedar Rapids, Ia.
Was driving down said road when I spotted him. A significantly older feller, puffing away on his smooth Canadian, or long shanked billiard. Not sure which. Was mowing his lawn.
Pretty cool.

Every once in a while I will encounter a fellow piper. The reaction is always surprise followed by curiosity, and if there's time, an exchange of pipes for examination, possibly a query regarding what the other is smoking.
What is it with unicorns in this forum?

I often see a piper at one of the patios in downtown Toronto or walking their dog. I don't often venture there but when i do im likely to spot one driving by. Also on my way home from work i spotted a gentlemen in the car next to me clenching a huge freehand it was impressive lol. other than that all i see is the average unicorn.

Yeah, we've been driven underground. The last piper I approached in a grocery parking lot beat a hasty

retreat, but he may have just been late for supper.

In the now year I have been smoking, I have ran across one pipe smoker out in public. Last week pulled up to a light and the driver next to me was clenching a pipe. Had never seen anyone else (other than a meet up or at the B&M) smoking a pipe in person).

It is kind of sad that we make forum posts when we see another pipe smoker, ( I've done it too). One thing that is something to mindful of, for all of us, is that there are many pipers that lurk out there just reading along without ever joining and contributing which is fine by me but I'd love to see more of them jump on board. I see quite a few pipe smokers now that I spend considerable time working at a B&M and I've been taking an informal survey each time I talk to anyone new and ask if they know about our forum. Most do but don't participate. We are in a smaller city so just imagine how many are out there just viewing from all over the globe!

In the 10 years I lived in my tiny town in California I have only seen 2 pipers. One was an older fellow at the annual Lumber Jubilee smoking what could only be Captain Black in a bent bulldog. The other was a young guy sitting on the corner smoking a cob. In the year that I've been living in New Orleans I have yet to see a fellow pipe smoker outside of the B&M

So........did you see Unicorns too?
my thoughts exactly  However, I was going to say.... Was it Bigfoot?" It's gotten to the point where you have to be a cryptozoologist to spy another pipester.

I saw an older gentleman about 5 months ago while driving to work out in front of his house with a pipe in his mouth and I just had to stop and say Hi. He only owns one pipe and smokes Captain Black White. I offered him another one of my pipes that I was going to sell and be said "Why would I need another pipe, this one is fine?" I asked I he wanted to try any tobaccos I have and he looked a me like I had two heads. I have stopped a few times and talked with him and I had a pre-loaded cob with something and he laughed at me and asked if that was the kind of pipe I wanted to give him. I said no and that I used this cob to experiment with new blends. The look he shot let me know that was probably the last bowl we shared together unless I had a briar and we didn't discuss pipes and tobacco

I was in Conway Ar last Saturday morning waiting for some friends outside a small diner. The gentleman in the truck next to me was puffing on what looked like a Peterson system pipe (turned out to be a Kaywoodie or Dr. Grawbow). I got out of my car and packed a bowl and said hello. He said hello, I lit my pipe and began to ask what he was smoking when he rolled up his window and left. It honestly surprised the hell out of me, even more than the unicorn in the back of the truck :puffy:

My last business trip a few months ago, I saw gentleman with an empty short bulldog in his mouth, while riding to the airport terminal from parking. To be honest, that is the first piper I've seen since my grandfather - knew my father smoked a pipe, but he never did around us kids.
Anyone know of a good pipe friendly B&M here in the DFW area?

If anyone drives through downtown Suffolk, VA when I'm mowing my lawn they'll see me puffing away on one of my cobs!
An older gentleman in "my" church (the church at which I attend, not own, necron99) occasionally lights a bowl at his car while waiting for his wife after service. I struck up conversation with him one time and found that he exclusively smokes Lane 1Q in his $2000+ BEAUTIFUL artisan-carved pipe. It's fun to see the diversity in pipe smokers' tastes!
Another time I saw a grandfatherly fellow walking with his family through Busch Gardens Williamsburg, unlit pipe clenched in his teeth. It was kind of a double-take moment... I didn't expect to see a pipe at an amusement park, even if that amusement park had up until a few years ago had a tobacco & sword shop as part of it's "England" area.

You should ask if he prefers the Frank method or air-pocket method of loading, and watch his face.

Sad but true...that seeing another piper warrants a forum thread. Not knocking the thread. If I saw another piper around here I'd be following the poor guy (or gal) around like a puppy begging to talk shop.
You have been brainwashed by the forum, because the guy that you'd see walking around with a pipe is a guy with just one pipe and one aro/otc blend, so that "shop talk" will be over in two seconds :)
I see pipe guys often enough, as a matter of fact, outside a tobacco store I see more people smoking pipes than I see people smoking cigars, which is really weird,to me at least. You want to see pipe smokers - go to a casino, if you have one, guaranteed to see a bunch of old fellas smoking 1Q.
Personally, I smoke in my car, when I am alone, so I guess I am one of those guys clenching pipe at traffic lights :)
