You're going to love it dude. Don't worry about building the cake it will come. Untreated bowl means (for me) gradually work your way up from 1/4 to full bowls, making sure to smoke real slow to keep from charring the wood until a little protective carbon forms. My Self-Portrait is an excellent flake smoker. I have also had very good experience with using the HH Old Dark cube cut to break in bowls. The cube cut allows you to easily pack to a certain level.
