I watched this Sasieni "Tree Stump" pipe go unsold after one round, then it sold on the 2nd listing. I recalled seeing this finish in a catalog and sure enough, it's listed in the George Yale catalog, albeit with a two-dot stem.
I think this is the first time that I've seen this type of Sasieni. Even more curious, this one appears to be a Four-Dot, Two-Dot - has that ever been seen?
I wonder if Larryson got his Tree Bark finish from this?

wow very cool. Amazing the price difference between then and now. I wonder how that compares when you remove inflation from the picture.

Never seen one. I would not agree with this statement in the listing,
THIS TREE STUMP SHAPE MARKED THE BEGINNING OF SASIENI'S USE OF THE "RUSTIC" MARKING.
Looking at the Geo. Yale catalog image, it appears the be late '30's early '40's (ok 1942, I just checked). Notice the stem logo shown appears to be an S (in fact it looks a lot like the Sashar S). My guess is the Two Dot pipes (or Double Two Dots) are from the post-war period.

Good catch Dave. I did notice the S on the catalog stem and that date for each seems sound.
I'm still astounded ad the double two-dot stem on both examples I posted - have you ever seen another double two-dot?
I'm regretting not grabbing that recent Ebay example.
