Did someone here just snag this 8 dot off Ebay?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Estate-Sasieni-Pipe-Pat-No-1513428-Reigate-As-Is-4-Dots-Collectors-Item/163680722583?hash=item261c219e97:g:CHIAAOSwh8xc0iuN
If so... good job!

This long, segmented title must have tricked all the search engines. I get a daily Sasieni listing email, but that never showed up.

"Estate Sasieni Pipe Pat No 1513428 | Reigate | As Is | 4 Dots | Collectors Item"

I've enjoyed the only bullcap I've ever had - and it sure ain't no 8-dot.

Good morning. I was the lucky one. I actually just bought another rarer one dot from 1923. How do I know it's from 1923 you ask? Because it came with the original paperwork and receipt from Finlay and Co on Piccadilly St.

WOW, nice work bayareabriae.

It was a "make best offer" kind of listing and before I could offer up, it was gone. It lasted maybe 10 minutes!

Maybe it is rude to ask, but I have to... what did ya get it for? $100.00?

Lol. A gentleman never kisses and tells. Search "lasieni" some people think the S is an L. It will help with some of the oddball listings. If you've never seen original paperwork from earlier Sasieni pipes, it's pretty facinating; it's in English and German.

Wow, nice grab!
I'd love to see that original paperwork, any chance you could scan/post it? I don't believe I've ever seen anything like that before (from that era).

I'm not sure how to post a photo here. And thank you for welcoming me to the group.

Interesting pipe the Specially Selected, but it's not from 1923, as it has the 1925 patent 242513/25. More details on the Patent,
https://worldwide.espacenet.com/publicationDetails/originalDocument?CC=GB&NR=242513A&KC=A&FT=D&ND=3&date=19251112&DB=worldwide.espacenet.com&locale=en_EP#
Furthermore, the bill of sale appears to be from 1973, the prices are in "new money" (1971) note,
"In the United Kingdom, the value-added tax was introduced in 1973. On 1 January 1973 the UK joined the European Economic Community and as a consequence Purchase Tax was replaced by Value Added Tax on 1 April 1973. The Conservative Chancellor Lord Barber set a single VAT rate (10%) on most goods and services."

I'd say a Pre-War One Dot for the European market.

I started to go for that 1-dot & now I wish I had, but I'd bought a 4-dot, a Jobey, & a Winslow) & I didn't want to push it with Beloved Wife since she's been sick with an ear infection & bum shoulder due for surgery. Mannn, what a deal!

Bill, I hear ya. I have about 10 patent dunhills I'm squatting on. Some in great shape, and some in need of stem work. If only the wife knew. I'm hoping my current listings will make her happy, or at least pay for the restoration of the others.

I think it would be safe to date the pipe to 1925-1930.
"As mentioned above, there are exceptions to these [dating] guidelines, which can be frustrating. Probably the most feared aberration in our neatly constructed Sasieni universe is the European One Dot. As may be remembered, Sasieni had no problem keeping his original trademark in Europe in spite of Dunhill’s best efforts to the contrary. This led to the pipe being manufactured for European markets until the sixties. If in doubt, check the rest of the nomenclature. Old style stamping (just think of the fish) means an old pipe.
The most difficult to distinguish from 1920’s era U. S. One Dots are the European One Dots made in the 30’s and 40’s. Here you just have to know your patent numbers and hope for the best, bearing in mind virtually any pre war Sasieni is collectible."

bayareabriar, you mention in the listing that you have pictures of the stem off the pipe, you would be best served by posting a couple in the listing.

Dave,
What can you tell about the Reigate date? Is it safe to say 1936? I read that the town names started then with the other features/8 dots...
Any help is appreciated.
