when sanitizing an old pipe stem, is it feasible to use the stuff home brewers use to sanitize their equipment before brewing?

then use oxiclean etc to cleanse afterwards

many thanks

The "no-rinse" brewery stuff should sanitise well, I think it is a bit overkill if your just going to oxiclean it, the oxiclean should be enough.

Oxiclean works great, after use the magic eraser then micro mesh working your way through the grades. I put vaseline on any logo that is on the stem before oxiclean soak. On nasty stems I do 2 oxiclean treatments, each for around 14 hours.

Thanks guys, I thought the oxiclean was only meant for around an hour or sp, does it really sanitise it though as am a bit of a clean junky, and want to make sure of any nasties in the mouthpiece

I always do 30 minutes Oxyclean bath, then 1 hour alcohol bath (99% isopropyl or Everclear). Stems that are oxidized I put into a bleach bath which is highly sanitizing in itself :)
